It's a small sample size of 2 games, but Jennings looks really good so far. He's looks like a seasoned pro running the team in the half court and is special in open space. The first thing I noticed watching him was the speed, this guy is up there with Brooks, Rondo, Parker, Rose, Paul as the quickest PGs in the league. Everyone knew he had great skill with the dribble, going to his weak or strong side. But his shooting is eye opening as well, he's got good form and is very confident in his shot. The passing instincts are great in the open court, I'm not sure about the half court passing yet, figuring out when to pass and when to shoot will be his greatest challenge offensively. Defensively he tries, he can stay in front of most with his speed and will get his share of steals because he's got quick hands. The most impressive thing is that this guy is one year out of high school, PGs normally take a long time to look as good as he's looked the first 2 games. It's hard to believe this guy was nailed to be bench over in euroleague. He's going to be a factor for rookie of the year.
It's too early. Teams will adjust to him when they figure out what he's comfortable doing. Let's see what happens when defenses figure him out. I remember Luther Head had 28 or 30 points against the Mavs in his 6th or 7th game and look what happened. I doubt Jennings gets much consideration for Rookie of the Year because his shooting won't hold up. I will say this: Speedy players like Jennings almost can't be defended if they are good enough.
I remember watching him play in the McDonalds All-American game and being pretty damn impressed. He more than any player in a long time really caught my eye.
He's a natural playmaker and he gets to the basket with ease. I was saying this before he was in Europe playing. The kid gets a bad rap, but he's a very good player. His jump shot is streaky, but he works hard. I wouldn't be surprised if he wins ROY at all.
Same here. I laugh at the poster before you sort of comparing Jennings to Luther Head. Not even the same league in terms of ability.
I don't even know what team he plays for... and I consider myself a pretty avid sports fan. Man... the NBA has managed to fall even FURTHER behind the NFL and MLB than ever before.
Maybe you didn't catch up with the rookies, it takes a while. He plays for Bucks so it's no wonder you couldn't scout him
I remember that also. He had the flat top and said he was going to get 20 assist that game and I didn't watch the whole game but he was def. on pace to do so.
It's hard not to know about him. There were a lot of articles about him when he decided to go from high school to overseas.
He's a great player but he tends to fade on his shot too much, leaving many of them short, especially when playing longer stretches of minutes .
He's going to be special. However, all these really really good guards that are coming out wouldn't do squat in the NBA of the old. A Kevin Johnson would be equal to somebody like Chris Paul in this era.
His attitude reminds of of Marbury. When Marbury first came into the league he had a lot to prove. Once he played great, proved he could play and got his contract he became entitled and his demeanor really changed. Jennings always has this douche smirk on his face. I think the talent is there but I think his attitude is temporary until he makes people forget the draft night incident and that youtube video incident then he'll go back to his normal ways. Why can't all players have Brandon Roy's demeanor
I actually think it's the exact opposite. I think the youtube incident woke him up. All reports since then have been what a hard worker and leader he is trying to become. He gets to the gym early and stays late. I don't think he'll regress at all.
Truehoop has an article on Jennings: http://espn.go.com/blog/TrueHoop/post/_/id/10270/brandon-jennings-makes-sonny-vaccaro-look-smart Their overall point is that Europe helped Jennings prepare for the NBA. You better believe there will be an exodus to Europe if the league raises the age limit to 20 years.
Perhaps just for you...I follow the NFL and NBA far more than the MLB. Of course part of it is the Astros being complete garbage.
Dooby Doo! I've been rooting for Jennings since he was featured in an All Star high school game against Kevin Love, Michael Beasley, and Tyreke Evans. he is an example of a smart, young, talented NBA player who made the right decisions regarding his future in the league and making the choice to play in Europe. he hit some stumbling blocks along the way, and I'm sure he'll hit a few more during his rookie year, but he is my shoo-in candidate for ROY based on his solid performance early this season.
Ditto this. For the first time ever, I haven't watched one single MLB game the entire season. I've never been this disconnected from baseball.
heard europe though has helped him they were talking about how on PTI he bought a small modest place near the Bradley Center so he can walk to practices and just has a ford as his car. hoping for the best for him I really like the kid to succeed. I felt bad that his agent told him to stay at home and not come to the draft and then having to show up super late when the Bucks took him #10. Made him look like a fool I am glad he did come out though even late, being drafted in the first round to the NBA is a dream that most basketball players have he shouldnt be robbed of that moment.
