Simple poll. I'm just wondering how many of you think it's a lost cause. For those of you that don't know, it looks like Luis Scola has been designated for this assignment.

Now I'm wondering if you can bet on this in Vegas.

we rarely won opening tip balls with yao. I say zero also.
Besides, not winning the tip lets you establish defensive tone first. :p
The only downside would come in overtime. =(

I thought before the year that Ariza would be doing the jump ball.

But I realize that he wouldn't win many of them anyways, and it would allow their wings to leak out and get a good shot on their first possession.

I think we'll win, maybe, 10 of them.

I am not even why you have options for more than 10.

If Landry ever gets the opportunity to start, he'll likely climb the ladder and win a few tips. Otherwise, we're screwed.

We've won the jump ball 12 times in the previous 8 seasons. I am confident we can win at least once this season because this group of players never give up.

Is a team required to send someone to the opening tip or can they just let the other team's Center see how far he can spike it back?

I can't recall them winning even one last year... on the opening tip. so since we are now shorter, I say less than that.

Irrelevant. The Rox still get the Opening Tip 1/2 the time - 2nd and 3rd Qs. So what? Jump balls, now that could be a decider in some games?

I knew it was a bad sign when our opening tip taker got rejected by Martell Webster 2 minutes into the game.

Is there some stat I am not aware of that says the team that wins the tip wins x% amount of games? ... because otherwise I've never understood the big deal on winning it. Being as the refs are horrible throwers ... maybe they should flip a coin instead.

The first possession can set the tone for the rest of the game. Starting the 4th quarter with the ball is crucial in late games.

There actually is. If I remember correctly, the team that wins the tip wins like 51% of the time.
