Why 2010 Free Agents should all be looking at Houston as a possibility

I have really come to love the Shaner, but I was talking with my dad today about this very thing. They'll almost have to trade him if they expect to keep Scola. I really like Lowry more than Brooks, but if we could swing Joe Johnson you could let Lowry go and pick up a guy like Conroy to play the point as a third option behind Brooks and Joe.

Instead of thinking about our players eating up our cap space lets worry about the salary cap possibly dropping

There is no way that this team is going to be able to sign a big name free agent, so that pipe dream needs to fade. Do y'all realize what you are saying when we say that if we renounce so and so or trade this guy that you are opening up multiple holes in the roster that we already had solidly fortified. Does anyone here remember the years where we had "superstar" contract players that just opened up gaping holes in other positions. Remember how we went a decade without a good point guard, then we couldn't get a decent power forward to play next to Hakeem or Yao because we were locked into huge contracts. Do you want more seasons where we fill the roster with bargain basement washed up players and journeymen like strickland, brunson, and francis? What the rockets need to do is not to fall into the free agency trap and throw big money at ONE player who for sure will not solve ALL of our deficiencies. I think Morey is smarter than this and has a damn good plan in place that involves developing his own players making smart trades and finding hidden gems while not going after overrated players. His ultimate plan is to construct a solid core of players that minimize the overall weaknesses of the team.

What the rockets should be targeting is mid level, second tier free agents to add to our core of skilled players. Why get Chris Bosh for 20 million when you can get David Lee AND Scola for the same price? I know players like Bosh produce but there is no way they can outproduce two 2nd tier players that you could get for the same money. Plus having more talent saves us from the crippling effect that we could experience from an injury to a 20 million dollar player. I think we can also learn from the Aaron Brooks/ Trevor Ariza experiment in that good players can put up allstar numbers if you give them a shot.

I have to second your sentiments. For less than $10 million our duo of Brooks and Ariza looks absolutely spectacular. I love seeing a guy like Landry really ball and fly around too. I know that his defense is far from great but the man is all effort along with Scola. I love this team!
