Only bc you stuck to your guns even after he showed that he's a decent player. You said that he would not contribute at all this season, which has already been proven wrong in the first game. Yep. Morey does know better than you. That's why he is a GM.
Hitting a few buckets in the first game of the season (which is a loss) isn't what I would call contributing. A determination on Andersen's contribution can't be made just yet.
you're right. anyone can hit a few buckets on any given night. that's not the point. the point is that his skillset is good for this type of offense, and he's a great shooter.
outside of that one fadeaway, every shot was wide open within the flow of the offense. hopefully, he continues to know his limitations. if he does that, he'll be a great contributor.
He's been surprisingly effective on his post ups, and overall his offensive game does remind me of a poor man's Mehmet Okur. Hopefully that 3-point shoot becomes more reliable as the season wears on, and his defensive mistakes go down.
His post game can be a bit ugly but the shots go in, so I don't care. I love the fact that he can extend out to the three point line. He might be limited but boy this guy is a winner. I love that about him, that he knows how to win and hopefully it will benefit this team long term.
Based on the first game we REALLY need Anderson to perform this year. If he is serviceable on defense, as he was last night, then he should get starter minutes. Portland is probably one of our 3-5 toughest matchups of the year due to their length, depth, and athleticism in the frontcourt. If Anderson didn't foul out yesterday, I don't think he will against many opponents. Last night, Chuck's defender was just floating around in the lane, so there were 2 defenders on Scola and Landry. When those 2 defenders are shot blockers, our undersized power forwards have NO CHANCE. We HAVE to have a center that will pull a defender away from the power forwards if we ever expect them to score this year.
3-3 tonight makes him 7/11 for the season. What's more impressive is that he had 1 steal & block in only 8 minutes tonight.
He's not going to be guarded by midgets all year, but its nice to know he can take advantage in the post when teams put little guys on him. I would have liked to see him shoot more outside shots, though.
That didn't work in pre-season. I think the NBA 3pt line is too far from him to be a consistent threat there.
It still amazes me that some people expect him to have massive numbers, we paid hardly anything for him and so far he has produced offensively when given the chance which is why he was signed. He is two games in with legit NBA refs, some of you either have small memories or only just jumped on the Rockets because Luis Scola took a while to adjust and he is a better player than Andersen. I think he has shown next year he will be a very handy player coming off the bench with Yao playing.
He has to establish a consistent low post move that would complement his perimeter game. It is a good thing that the Rockets play the Blazers twice in a span of 4 days because it would give David the opportunity to experience playing against bigger centers. This would only build his confidence as the season progresses.
I can't stop laughing at his arm flailing to get the rebound. It's hilarious. The ball bounces off the rim and instead of grabbing it, he flails his arms and sends the ball flying to another player. That aside, I am surprised by his post moves and shots. He's quite skilled offensively.
His offense is further along than I expected, but his defense looks to be almost a lost cause. Hopefully he gets it to a respectable level sometime this season.
i actually really love his low moves, looks polished. hopefully he can utilize that against smaller defenders instead of 16 footers all the time
It's easier to teach a player defense compared to offense, imo. Andersen will be a decent NBA center if his defense improves. His offense is already there. I'm excited to watch his progression this season. All he lacks right now is experience and skills for defending NBA quality players and physicals. An full season weightlifting and playing in the NBA will improve his play no doubt.
He has to learn to mix it up. Open the defense on him by hitting those perimeter shots then create a low post move that would keep the defense honest on him. Something that Landry is doing. He developed a good medium range shot and complemented it with his low post moves. Consistency on offense and an above average rebounding would be a big bonus for the team.
