honestly, i could see us going in there with Yao and winning the same way. You have to take into consideration the hype surrounding their start of the season. Curry is a big story, the guy is competitive as hell so you know he wanted to come out looking like a pro (he didnt, but still played a nice game), it's their opening game and there's been a lot of talk about Jax wanting to be traded, he's taken a lot of crap for it and he needed to come out and show he's going to play hard. So i'm not surprised they led most fot he way early on and we had to come back and then survive a comeback attempt on their part. The way they play with all their shooters, they can shoot themselves right back into a game or out of it unexpectedly.
That's team ball. Another important factor is the rebounding tally. It was 41-41. As long as they can control the ball and not get out rebounded by double digits then this team can make some noise. In order to run, they must first have the ball. Everything hinges on defense that ends with a defensive rebound or others such as steals or blocks.
Budinger continues to impress. He showed a lot of poise for his second NBA game. I also love how he moves when he doesn't have the ball in the offense. You can tell he has a very good sense of what is required of him.
only thing I can see is andersen probally has defensive lapses and the rockets had to play a perfect game defensively in order to win.
I actually did not think he did too bad defensively. Not much of a sample size tonight, but I thought he did well vs. Portland
Hi all, first post! I'm thrilled with the win (would have really started to worry if we lost, like, Cleveland worry), but I'm hoping that what we saw from Scola and Brooks in the third is more in line with what their play will be like on a more consistent basis. I'm a firm believer that when Aaron Brooks looks to score (and does) that the rest of the team will find room to operate. Teams seem to panic when Aaron is on fire more so than when our other players start to hit. Once he finds consistency he'll be elite. Also, Aaron seems to be the kind of guy that struggles with assists when he struggles offensively. The people complaining about Aaron being a shoot first point guard hurting the team are, in my opinion, wrong.
You are right and Morey has stated in interviews that this combination doesn't work. Assuming McGrady will be back, expect Battier to move to the bench. I know it's not a popular thing to say, but I would trade him...and I LOVE Battier.
we've got a rookies in that position, i dont see adelman starting a rookie right now. I think it looks uglier against a run and gun team like GS because you can't set up scola much on the post and feed off of him. Last night they could have , but scola had an off night. Maybe they should let DA have some time with that lineup.
Look at Coret Maggette's Boxscore.... How the helll he gets a +5 and Bud gets -2 http://espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=291028009
Definitely Battier. I like the idea of a combination of Lowry-Budinger-Battier. Budinger will do all of his moving off the ball, and since Lowry drives to the basket pretty much every time he touches it, Battier can spot up at the 3-point line and wait for the pass.

BTW, I meant when Tracy comes back. We just don't have anybody else to throw out there in the starting lineup right now besides Battier.
The thing is, if David does not get playing time then how can He learn how to play defense. Its early in the season and I believe Adelman can experiment on leaving David in for some much needed experience. This game was one of those games ( Hope it is frequent ) that Scola and Landry had good games. If one of those players do not show up then David would be in.
just tells you how reliable these +/- numbers are. and espn news last night reported portland defeated houston in the season opening game; also the lakers defeated the rockets in their opening game as well.
It's a lie. Those numbers are LIES! Ok, maybe not. Look at the popcorn machine gameflow to get a better idea: http://popcornmachine.net/cgi-bin/gameflow.cgi?date=20091028&game=HOUGSW The Rockets biggest run came at the beginning of the third quarter. Brooks and Scola took over on offense, Battier and Hayes fortified the defense. Budinger had good minutes in the 4th quarter, though the teams were sort of exchanging runs at that point. Maggette played poorly all game, but he was on the floor the entire 2nd quarter when the Warriors outplayed the Rockets. Basketball is a team game, and +/- reflects team performance with individuals on the court. People shouldn't read into those numbers without understanding the bigger picture of where they came from.
