Budinger fell to the Rockets with the 44th pick, and with Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady out with injuries, the athletic forward will see decent playing time. He may not put up huge numbers, but his hustle and ability to defend will keep him on the floor. "He's a really solid rookie," coach Rick Adelman said last week. "He can really shoot the ball. He's smart. He's played well since camp started. I've been real pleased with Chase. He really knows how to play the game. His whole success is going to be based on how he learns to defend."
That really doesn't make sense nba.com. The coach says that his flaws are on the defensive side of the ball, but you say his ability to defend will keep him on the floor.
I think the author is saying Chase will get more playing time if he can learn to play sound defence... if he gets more playing time.. he will get more stats...which is how they basically judge whether a player is good or not.
Completely an opinion listing there are absolutely no facts or statistics other than summer league and preseason. let's see the list in 2 months
I hate to be the guy who compares a young white player to an old white player - but am I the only one that sees similarities between Budinger and Brent Barry? Remember when Brent Barry was young and capable of winning slam dunk contests? I'm not sure Budinger doesn't have a slightly higher ceiling than Barry, but even if he doesn't I'd be thrilled if we drafted somebody with the 44th pick who manages to have a Brent Barry like career.
Actually, we didn't draft him. Detroit did. But I give credit to Morey for purchasing the rights to Chase.
The Rockets did pass on him twice when they picked Bad Intentions and Lulz instead, so evidentally even the Rockets were not THAT high on him.
That's what I was thinking, how some of these "sports writers" make a living doing this, I will never know.
makes perfect sense... he is implying that if he plays good D, it will keep him on the floor. As opposed to?? That's right, not playing.
Precisely, The first two games are great exposure for Chase. He played the whole 4th quarter. The games were close and He did some good things like baskets in the Portland game and is learning how to defend during crunch time. Experience is the best teacher and Chase is getting that early. Lets hope to see some progress within the month.
After losing Yao, McGrady, Mutombo and Dorsey to injury last year, the Rockets weren't interested in drafting a guy with no ACL in both knees. They went with Budinger and Taylor. I can't fault them for not taking the risk.
C'mom. Bud's shooting is sweet, but not defense. From time to time, he lost his man, leaving open shots opptunities.
