    my top ten....

honorable mention: (MONO - Hymn To The Imortal Wind, Candy Claws - Catamaran)

upcoming releases in 2009- Driving Alone For Thousands Of Miles, saYcet, The Mercury Program, Amberhaze and Silent.

    10. Maserati- Passages

not their best work, but it's a fun, fun album.

    9. Olafur Arnalds- Found Songs

again, not better than his 2008 EP, but it's a fantastic release. Pretty unique method of releasing this "album"....released one song a day for 7 days via twitter.

    8. Balmorhea- All Is Wild, All Is Silent

    breathtaking.

    7. Gifts From Enola- From Fathoms

a refreshing twist of Mogwai meets Deftones. Awesome.

    6. Russian Circles- Geneva

I wish it was top to bottom good, but still a very solid album. highly recommended.

    5. The End Of Science- Hence The Title

On The Light Side Of The Mountain might be one of the top 5 songs I have ever heard in my life.

    4. The Calm Blue Sea- Siegfried

If I read one more review comparing TCBS to Explosions in the Sky, I'll puke. Is this what it has come to? any post-rock band with bleeding melodies dowsed with reverb and delay effects becomes associated with EITS? pfft. whatev. I really like EITS, but they are not on the same level as TCBS. They just arent. Caspian would be a better comparison, and still not quite accurate.

    3. F**k Buttons- Tarot Sport

the epitome of awesome and kick ass.

    2. Not To Reason Why- Would You Hug Fire?

"...like finding yourself adrift on a tiny raft ...when suddenly out of nowhere appears this impossibly freakin' enormous ocean liner...and then slowly disappears into the fog." - Todd Haile

    1. There Will Be Fireworks- Self Titled

begining to end...this album is full of win. The textures, the layers upon layers of instrumentation, the rhythms, everything just flows perfectly.

what's you favorite albums of 2009?

I saw all these bands live 18 months ago, before they had microphones. All of them played in a dumpster. IN A DUMPSTER.

Cheap Trick's The Latest- power pop from heaven. I haven't heard that many CDs from 2009, but it doesn't matter- no way anything knocks this out of the top 10- musicianship, songs, singing, playing- absolutely terrific, hands down, no question about it, I'll stake my (ahem) reputation and musical integrity on it.

Now, THAT'S fanaticism. Seriously, it ain't cutting edge, it ain't alternative, it ain't bang-your-head, but it's superb pop.

    Track 2:

    Track 3:

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/7nDMqJ-iTNU&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/7nDMqJ-iTNU&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

    Track 4:

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bYit_yxRSEw&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bYit_yxRSEw&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

    Tracks 5 and 12:

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/IOumwUwUyyw&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/IOumwUwUyyw&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

    And all of them:

Dude, talk about obscure. I definitely look past a lot of the mainstream stuff, and I've still only heard of one of those albums you mentioned.

Maybe I'll look into some of them, but I definitely have a limit for how much experimental-ism I can take in music, so I don't know. I should be receiving the new F*** Buttons album in the mail soon.

As for the best of 2009, I'll hold off until we get closer to the end of the year.

And why do people like the Kid Cudi album so much? I liked it okay, but best of the year?
