By that, I mean that they sell different VCRs than the crap that is sold at Circuit City and Best Buy.

I'm looking for a VCR (besides Panasonic), that can record in three speeds, that is a must.

Apparently, C. City, and Best buy don't carry a VCR that can record at the three speeds.

Are there stores that sell higher quality VCRs besides tweeter.

    Help.

out of curiousity, why "besides Panasonic?"

i've got a Panasonic VCR that records in all three speeds and see nothing wrong with it.

Hmmm, what do you know that I don't??? :D

JB - I used to have an old Emerson VCR that would record in 3 speeds. Now that you mention it I have a nice JVC VCR that only records in EP/SP. What do you need all three speeds for? You should consider getting a Tivo if you record that much.

I would check Conn's or Wal-Mart, you might be suprised. Why not buy it online, you will get a better selection/price.

Well, I have had my Panasonic for just over a year, and I record with it a lot, but about two weeks ago, it just gave out.

When I use still frame, (by pushing pause button) the screen becomes nearly black, and when i record in LP and then replay it the screen constaly moves in a downward direction, it does not stay stationary.

Then, tonight wehn I tried to rewind, something inside the VCR caught the tape and scrathed it up.

    Yeah, I forgot about Conns.

I hate taping in SLP, because three years down the road the quality is horrible.

Does ANYONE ever actually record in LP? If so, why?

Of the 6 or so VHS VCRs I've owned, I think I have used LP exactly zero times. All VHS VCRs will playback all three speeds.

I don't know if it records at 3 speeds, but Sam's has a Hitachi that is actually quite good. 6 head (4 video, 2 audio).

Well, if you don't like Panasonic, you may not like JVC, Quasar, or Technics either. They're all owned by the same company - Matsu****a.

    EDIT : uuh, that's Matsu{s}{h}{i}{t}a.

I was pissed I had to buy a new VCR the other day. I probably use a VCR about 2 times a year now, but still needed one to transfer some old videos to digital format later this summer. Of course my VCR drops dead after about 5 years (it was a ProScan if you're interested). I hate having to buy yesterday's technology.

Fry's has that Hitachi 6 Head Hi Fi on sale for $59

Why not just record in SP?

Well, i gave in and bought a Panasonic, the same one that gave out on me, but I bought it for 70$ (Best Buy Open Box Value), and then bought a 30$ service plan that is good for four years.

Ouch. Thirty bucks for a $70 item. :( I would've just said "screw the extended warranty".

I'm thinkin' I won't even own a VCR in the next 6 months.

    ... I hope, I hope, I hope...
