I have been watching this Rondo thing unfold over the summer, including the recent article in ESPN The Magazine about him and how Doc Rivers sat him down and asked, "Do you think your teammates like playing with you?" Which translates as, "Your teammates don't like playing with you." Ainge and Rivers have been fairly public about trying to bring Rondo to heel, and I don't think it's just tough-love, because Rondo's reactions ("you don't have to be best friends to win the championship", or something like that) indicate he's pretty well stung. As he should be. I don't think he's a head case, but he is headstrong. Rondo is a real point guard who plays some hellacious D. Which is what we need. His numbers in the playoffs are slightly inflated because he played a lot of minutes, but if you figure he can get you 15, 8, and 8, with 2 steals a gama (about what he averages), then get him. Don't know what we'd give up to get him, mind you. I wouldn't be stunned if Morey and Ainge have been in contact for awhile now. Morey does have history with that team. I just don't see Boston taking TMac unless Morey has kept Ainge in the know (on the sly) that Tmac is good to go. But we've already shelved him for the first month of the season, so how do you convince the Boston fanbase that the trade would be a good one? As far as Ray Allen, would we want to keep him? If his name comes up, find him another home, please, his contract situation will prove a distraction, and he's----what?, 34 years old?
Even trade if Rondo threatens to leave for nothing, maybe slightly in the Rox favor. Ray Ray is probably the weakest of the "Big 3". His shot just seems so off lately. This happens when you get old and don't have the same lift. At this point, a kinda healthy T-Mac is equivalent to Ray Allen.
Well.. Whether or not the trade goes down, we could always pick him up in the offseason. Imagine if Tracy came back, played well, resigned for 36 mil over 3 years. That would give us a heck of a lot of money to sign Rondo, plus give us an edge in resigning all of our young guys(and Scola<-- who is going to want a pay raise). Wake me up. I'm dreamin.
Rondo´s godfather may have something to say about him playing for the Rockets... And Tracy McGrady haning with KG.. boy, I love to see that unfold.
I am trying to see this from Boston's perspective, but it doesnt really make any sense to me. They want to move Rondo because he is a headcase and will command big bucks in the offseason which Im assuming they dont want to pay. So I guess they want to trade him for anything this year that keeps them a contender? If its a Rondo for McGrady swap, obviously Boston is going to either have to send a ton of filler contracts or Ray Allen. Why would Boston want an injured player if this is a "all in" type of run, especially if they have to give up Allen in the process? If not Allen, how can Houston take on so many players, already being at the roster limit, unless its the old buyout trick. So even if it were Rondo + Allen for McGrady, how does this make them any better or help them long term? All are expiring, so after this year its a wash and leaves Boston with a gaping hole at PG. So in that case it would have to be McGrady + Lowry/Brooks for Allen + Rondo, but again, why not just swap Rondo for Brooks/Lowry if you want a long term return. I just don't see this as credible unless there is a third team, because it just doesnt make any sense.
It was probably just Morey casually calling Boston to see what they'd be looking for. I would expect that type of thing happens between teams a lot, unreported.
If you could somehow keep Brooks and then trade Allen's contract with Scola or preferably Landry for a Bosh. That's a fun lineup.
Wait.. We'd be getting rid of TMac and Scola/Landry... Nevermind I guess once I read "Scola", I was like NO!
Yeah, I'm sure a title contending team with a history of winning and intense competitors like KG and Pierce would want T-Mac, coming off microfracture surgery. Franchise PG's also seem to grow on trees, so I'm sure we can nad one so easily.
hmmm....... if the C's really wants to trade and seeing all their wing players aren't getting any younger, they will prob. going to ask C. Bud to be in any deal. If that was the case how would you feel?
Why does everyone hate T-mac except when they are about to trade him? "oh this is all we're gettingg???" two seconds later in a completely separate thread: "F stacy"
I usually don't even bother to participate in trade rumor discussions these days, but -- this is silly. Rondo would be at best a half season rental...he's running off into the free agency sunset afterwards. Why would you bench Brooks for him, or worse, trade Brooks as well so you end up with nothing at the end? It's going to be a long season in the GARM ... *sigh*. And you know ESPN is not going to help matters at all, given their incredibly notorious track record of furiously propagating false trade rumors involving McGrady over the past few years. And of course, we're guaranteed to hear from that Chicago sportswriter -- what's his face -- a few times as well.
I would do it. I would try to get Perkins in the deal though. He is a defensive minded center and a local guy from Beaumont. Perkins would help spell Yao when he is hurt(which is way too often).
