What should be done to them? I keep hearing the press talk about how they overshot their target by more than 150 miles, but that is like 10 minutes at that speed. Apparently they were on their laptops going over a new work schedule..... I would not fire them, just suspend em....what about you? DD
I agree. There's no way it was just them on their laptops. They would have heard all of the repeated calls to them. I'm betting there is more to the story and they're just not making it public.
I'd fire them. You simply cannot have pilots who can become that unaware of the situation responsible for hundreds of lives on a regular basis. They were also ignoring air traffic control and were within a few minutes oif having a couple of Air Force jets fly up to meet them. Also, is that really the true story as to why they weren't paying attention? They don't have any corroboration other than themselves.
Another forum I read has been going on about this for awhile. The point made there was that there is no way the flight crew wouldn't have been bugging them as well when they went over time. Something is very odd about this whole thing.
they put a lot of people at risk and all the moves had to be made from the ground and from the other airliners in the area to avoid an even more dangerous situation. from what I hear, this is an offense serious enough to get fired and lose their license over. go over your work schedule on your own time, not when you have 250 passengers and a jumbo jet you are responsible for landing...
IIRC, Delta said that that the pilots would be terminated. If they were off by 150 miles, that would be around 15 minutes outward, then more than 15 minutes coming in because of course you'd need to slow down. I'm surprised no one was like WTF, why is this taking so long (more than 30 minutes)? Usually someone comes on the PA and gives an update , decent, etc. etc. If you can't tell, I hate flying and want to get off planes as fast as possible...
People said they didn't know what was going on and were confused/scared when they weren't landing on time after the pilot said they'd land in 10 minutes. The flight attendant said she knocked on the cockpit and got no answer or something? Nothing makes sense. Something is missing from the story. They should be fired for the truth not coming out, whatever it is..
I never read any of the articles, because it sounded so damn boring. They overshot, then turned around and landed. Okay. I can understand they created a lot of hassle, and some concern. I see why they'd get fired. I just don't quite see why it is headline news. It's no balloon boy.
Two 50 something year old men -- not likely. They could have been wanking off to p*rn though, although I don't think that's too likely either.
Takes 2 doesn't it? I mean why have two then LOL. I mean obviously they were watching a youtube clip together but I could have come up with a good lie.
