Yea this was the first thing that came to my mind. I wish Sony went with Blockbuster. I like Blockbuster more, plus they have B&M stores.

Yep exactly, hell I remember it being a small little company. For awhile there , it was a bit "touch n go" but the major partnerships are all going to Netflix instead of BB.

I just wish they would spend more time on the browser, so I could listen to xm online with my PS3. Everything works but the player.

no. There is a good mix, but not the full availability. It also changes from time to time, as licenses for what can be streamed comes and goes.

Still, combined with the disc options, it's a great feature. I have nearly 100 things currently on my instant queue on my XBOX.

This is pretty nice. Netflix is pretty much devouring the streaming market at this point. Not counting PCs or Macs, I have three devices that are netflix compatible now. It's a shame their online content blows.

PlayOn is the right program... I did the trial and it worked pretty well with Hulu, Netflix. I forget how much the cost is for a license as I was waiting to upgrade my media pc before purchasing.. now that the PS3 and Netflix is joining forces I won't be getting PlayOn. Sweet!!! :D

Good for PS3. How does Microsoft justify charging $50 for their online service now?

people like it. they've been having all these features for a long time. stability and reliability of network is worth the $50/year. I'm sorry if you find it too expensive.

two things that are important in business. customer satisfaction and your finance sheet.

    two things fanboys don't understand.

sony hasn't exactly been the best company lately. they use to be the top company for:

    not so long ago:
    portable music-sony walkman
    gaming consoles-ps2, ps1
    televisions-sony wega

    now:
    portable music- ipod
    game consoles-nintendo, xbox
    televisions-samsung, lg

if people don't like paying $50 for xbox live, you'll see a sharp decrease in user subscriptions. but that's not the case.

ask the WoW people why they are paying $20/month for an RPG?

I use the hell out of netflix on my xbox. I'm happy that those with PS3 are going to be able to enjoy it as well, it's a fantastic service.

Update: Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities noted that the Blu-ray disc required for Netflix playback on the PS3 may circumvent exclusivity clauses instituted by Microsoft. "We believe that the exclusive arrangement limits Netflix's ability to appear on the 'dashboard' for the PS3 or the Wii." Additionally, Pachter believes Netflix streaming will expand to Nintendo's console next year. "We anticipate that a similar arrangement will be announced for the Wii in the next 12 months."

Netflix Streaming Coming to Sony TV Sets

netflix_logoAdd Sony TV sets to the long list of hardware devices that will stream Netflix movies. Netflix announced this morning that starting this fall, net-connected Sony Bravia TVs and older Bravias that use the Internet link module will be able to access its “Watch Instantly” movie service.

Sony joins a host of other consumer electronics companies carrying Netflix including LG, Vizio, Samsung along with Microsoft’s Xbox 360. Speaking of the Xbox, noticeably absent from the Sony announcement is streaming to the PlayStation 3. Netflix currently has an exclusive game console relationship with the mighty Microsoft, but once that ends, it’s likely the PS3 will get Netflix as well.

Sony also has a deal with Amazon’s VOD service to stream movies to its sets.

This deal was kind of inevitable given Netflix’s plan to be everywhere (and success so far at achieving that), but it’s a nice feather in the cap for the company to get (another) a big brand name like Sony. In April, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said that his company had a “tremendous number” of hardware partnerships in the pipeline.

If you ever do any type of gaming online with consoles Microsoft OWNS Sony in that department. The network they have built is just head and shoulders above it's competitors. COD MW2? Yeah there is a reason why Microsoft has a ratio of 3 to 1 sales on that game.

Downloading movies from the PSN takes forever, Netflix offers a quick continuous stream? If so thats huge.
