Ming is going to have a great career for the next 15 years in the NBA and will be inducted into hall of fame in year 2017. Bring it up in April 2017 if I am wrong.

It all depends on whether Butler can fit into Riley's system or not. I say that because Riley isn't too kind on rookies and his preseason training is killer...

    Butler or Williams.

I think it's clear now that Yao isn't going to step in and dominate, and THAT IS OK. I surmise he will be used to make passes, hit the open shot, and clear the centers away so our guards can get some space underneath, and not be a first option.

He could still be a huge difference maker for us and yet post piddly scoring stats. If the rebounding and defense come around to star levels in a few years, then we've hit the jackpot, but I hardly expect standout rookie numbers in those categories.

Besides, his minutes will be too limited to earn ROY. His stamina also needs improving apparently.

I think if Yao can come in and get 14/9/2, as well as provide a defensive presence, and the Rockets become a 50+ win team, there might be a chance of him winning. His stats may not look as good as Williams or Butler, but being on a winning team makes up for it. Plus, becoming the 2nd best center in the NBA in your 1st season probably won't hurt either. If Yao can't adapt quickly to the NBA then I'll say Jay Williams will win Rookie Of The Year.

Manu Giniboli of the SanAntonio Spurs will win the award. He is a better shoter and a better athlete than Peja. He should be scoring option #2 for the Spurs.

OK now we have 5 people in the last ten years that avg'd 20 points or more. Of those five people only one is not a big man. I only brought up the number of 20 because of your claim that JWill will avg over 20. I just do not see it happening. If JWill avg's over 20 he will be only the 2nd non big man to avg over 20 in the last 10 years as a rookie. Something else to consider is that Rose will be Chi's top scorer next year not JWill.

didn't Brand get like 19.9 a game, come on crash count him in too, and francis was almost there too. He averaged 18ppg. thats 1 jump shot away. Guys who score big are there every year, except the year M. Miller won ROY.
Ming will get pt because the nba wants him to be showcased. He will be top 3 .

SF, I acknowledged Brand in the thread just previous to your, he was the 5th.

My point is not how unlikely it is that a player will score from 17 - 19 points a game it is how unlikely it is for a rookie to score over 20 points a game. So no, Francis is not included on this list.

One more time. In the last 10 years the only players (that I can find) to eclipse the 20 mark in their rookie years are:

Brand, Duncan, Iverson, Shaq and Zo

In the last nine years we have had only 3 and Iverson is the only non low post player to do it.

JWill will not be the leader or the main scoring option on the Bulls this year unless they trade Jalen Rose.

JWill scoring over 20 in his rookie year is a major reach.

Totally agree. JW will be an immediate impact player, and plus, he will play on a team so crappy he will play a ton of minutes, take a ton of shots and have the ball in his hands a ton of times out of neccessity. I believe 20 PPG is not unreasonable for him (Iverson--the most comparable player to him coming out of college since Isiah-- got over 23 after all), but I expect more modest numbers of assists and a Stevie-esk rookie A/TO ratio.

Ming has an outside shot (15PPG, 8RBG, 3BPG would be great for us and Ming), could be the 2nd split ROY with Hou/Chi.

Butler and Gooden are the other NBA ready players--but will not get the touches. I think only if JW gets injured will they come in the ROY picture.

    Desert Scar,
How many Guards or Small Forwards have avg'd 20 or more points a game in their rookie year in the last 10 years?

    A.I. has already been mentioned.

Lets take a deeper look into the situations of Butler and Jay Will. Here are the projected line-ups for the Heat and Bulls:

    Miami:
    Alonzo Mourning
    Brian Grant
    Caron Butler/LaPhonso Ellis
    Eddie Jones/Jim Jackson
    Rod Strickland(FA)/Anthony Carter

    Bulls:
    Tyson Chandler
    Eddie Curry/Charles Oakley(FA)
    Marcus Fizer/Eddie Robinson
    Jalen Rose/Jamal Crawford
    Jay Williams/Travis Best(FA)

The Heat look like a better team to me, at least for now!

J-Will has to do nothing but score and defend. Rose handles the ball, Chandler and CUrry do the BigMan work, and he has Jamaal Crawford backing him up. More than likely, I see Crawford at the 2, and J-Will at the 1. Crawford is 6'7, and with his skills as a PG, will mesh brilliantly with J-Will's SG-like talent. It's also naive to think the Bulls are a crappy team:

    Curry
    Chandler/Fizer
    E-Rob
    Rose/Crawford
    J-Will/Crawford

Thats a very good team. In the East, and a "DEFENSE IS A MUST" coach like Cartwright, that team can make the playoffs. Also, take into account how much faster Curry and Chandler will develop with a former C on a Championship team as the coach.

After the All Star break, they can go 21-20. Thats pretty good.

If Jay Williams even shows up, the media has already given him this award.

Caron Butler does have the best chance to steal it, but as was already mentioned, Pat Riley is a demanding taskmaster; practice, practice, practice....what? no cartilage in your knees? whiner! what? kidney ailment? slacker! broken leg? you've got another, don't you!? Hop! Hop! Hop!

I would like to see Butler win. I like that guy's confidence. Pat Riley lucked out by getting him.

Jay Williams in a landslide...........he's gonna get the most PT outta all the rookies, and he'll have the most control of his team too! If Yao has any success, might get a nod, depends on how many minutes he'll get throughout the season though.

You and your attitude should take a long walk on a short pier.
