Are you talking to me? Because I am not taking issue with Dr. Romer's report, and I do not believe I have provided any sort of an "analysis". As I stated in my original post:
Where exactly is the fail? The deadline for reporting by states and local jurisdictions is October 30th. http://money.cnn.com/2009/10/16/news/economy/stimulus_jobs/index.htm The contract awards posted Thursday represented less than 7% of the total stimulus funds doled out so far. By far the largest part of stimulus is in grants to states, which account for 83% of stimulus funding. Federal agencies and recipients are spending nearly three weeks reviewing these state reports to improve their accuracy before publishing them. Loans to recipients make up the other 10%. Both grants and loans will be posted on recovery.gov at the end of the month. There were 5,232 federal contracts reported Thursday, but 41,944 grants and loans will be reported on Oct. 30. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California recently said that his state alone submitted 5,747 reports from agencies and others who received funds from the state. So yes, the data is still being collected. It seems you're the one full of fail.
So it is your position that the stimulus had zero impact on the economy, and basically you are rejecting Keynesianism en toto? Do you have any evidence of this? Thanks in advance. Also, let me pose you a hypothetical. Let's say tomorrow, the government announced that the stimulus was hereby rescinded (you may or may not know this, but only a small proportion of it has been spent thus far). On monday AM, are you long or short? Thanks in advance. Also, please reconcile your "rope" comment with the actual excerpt as posted. Thanks in advance.
Your assessment of my position is so blindly partisan, and so remarkably far off base, that I have decided that I am not going to weary myself by responding to it. Thanks anyway.
Wow. That must have been record time for a total surrender. I particularly like the accusation of blind partisanship from someone who started the thread with this statement-
Honestly, I do not know why this should have anything to do with me. I have posted an article quoting sworn testimony before Congress from President Barack Obama's Chair of the Council of Economic Advisors. Are you guys refuting her statement here? I would have thought that you gave her the regard afforded to a serious, responsible, trustworthy officer of Barack Obama's hand-picked leadership team. But according to you guys, somehow I am the issue here. Really now. I present to you the words of Christiana Romer, Chair of the Council of Economic Advisors, who was appointed to her position by the current President of the United States Barack Obama. Are you actually refuting her testimony? Or are your attacks on me an emotional demonstration that you are really frustrated by this unexpected run-in with a truth and reality that contradicts what you have previously been told and led to believe by this same administration?
http://www.voanews.com/english/2009-10-22-voa29.cfm http://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/article.cfm?articleid=2309 If you think the states were unprepared now, what about a year ago? It would've been a total disaster if states, most of which are required by law to balance budgets, had to cut thousands of jobs and essentially stop most construction. The stimulus has done it's bit. We are slipping away from the chasm, which was ridiculously deep and "end of the world is nigh!"-ish. Without it, I think things would be a lot worse. While I'm not a fan of the budget deficit or the extent to which Obama took his Keynesian package, I certainly could see the need for it and the good it has done. Now it becomes a question of efficiency, but I have to conclude that the bill was a good thing.
No, actually you presented us with a link to a link to a link. I presented you with the words. And questions. I have your Mojo, man. Answer my queries if you want it back.
Listen up you lefties, I spoke to a unemployed father of three the other day in my clinic and this is what he told me: "OBAMA,WHERE ARE THE JOBS?".
did you tell him to "chill, brother, Obama is still counting the jobs as we speak! Just give him time to finish counting."
"Another way of putting it is when, you know, I'm busy and Nancy's busy with our mop cleaning up somebody else's mess -- we don't want somebody sitting back saying, you're not holding the mop the right way." "Why don't you grab a mop, why don't you help clean up." "You're not mopping fast enough. That's a socialist mop," "Grab a mop -- let's get to work." President Obama riffing on critics
REALLY? so the highest unemployment since Reagan was well into his presidency? I would think you would love Obama....
WOW...earth shattering comments, I am sure he speaks for everyone ... amazingly scientific evaluation.... I put the margin of error at 100%
You can't be serious.... he has been president for less than a year and has accomplished quite a bit, despite political bickering and an obvious effort on the part of the GOP to stonewall any efforts. If you don't like his policies, that is a legitimate point of view, but to state that he has accomplished squat makes you sound overly partisan and biased. I do not think Obama is a savior, but he has accomplished quite a bit in a short period of time. Least we forget, he is also getting close to massive health care reform.
