I have a hypothetical for you guys... The state of Texas passes a law on Monday that requires all drivers in this state to use two hands for steering at all times. If the police observe you driving with one hand they can pull you over and write you out a ticket that is equivalent to the monetary penalty given when a camera catches you running a red light. I rarely ever use two hands while steering and I'd have a real hard time trying to adapt. Would this affect you?
It would never get passed, because it would probably affect most cops. Up here in Nebraska, aside from snowtime or tornado season I pretty much steer with one hand almost all of the time.
True that. You ever tried to drive with both hands and eat a donut at the same time? Seriously? That was the very first thing that crossed mine. Followed by the problem presented by amputees.
This would most definitely affect me. I drive a standard and will NOT drive with two hands on the wheel.
My hands are generally at the bottom of the steering wheel, where people outside the car wouldn't be able to see either of them. Is that a problem? An is talking on a cell phone while driving really that big an offense? Has anyone ever been pulled over for that?
I've known people in Cali that get pulled for that a lot. The only law regarding cell phones in Texas is with minors only I think. Anyone under 18 can't be on their cell phone while driving. Oh, and anywhere near a school you can't use your phone while driving. And on topic, I would hate that law. I can not steer with two hands. It is too uncomfortable as well.
This gives me an opportunity to present something that I found interesting, but didn't want to make a new thread for... There are these signs along the I-10 service road near where I live, and it's my opinion that they are intentionally misleading. At first glance (and if you're just driving by that's all you'll get) the bolded text basically reads as if it's saying "The eyes of Texas are upon you, cellular phone users", followed by slightly smaller text that says "please call 911 to report", and accompanied by the menacing image of a state trooper. That makes it seem like the sign is telling you not to use your cell phone while driving because someone will report you for it. It's not until you get to the smaller text, which is actually very hard to read unless you're stopped at a light right next to the sign, that you realize the sign is supposedly a warning to criminals that cellular phone users will report illegal activities. I can't be the only one that thinks those signs are intentionally misleading, can I?
actually if you drive manual you're not supposed to keep your hand on the shifter. shift, and then put it back on the wheel. i only use two hands when im in beastmode v2.0
This is probably how I got into the habit of driving one handed in the first place. My first 2 cars were standards. Now that I drive an automatic, my right hand still gravitates towards the gear shift.
