I love me some Fedor, but Tyson in his prime was just at another level. Just watch the hand speed and accuracy.

I just turned 30. I'm a huge boxing fan and watch every fight that's on either regular TV or pay-per-view. I tried really hard to like MMA, but I just don't. I don't find it entertaining in the least.

I think the training is what turns many world class fighters away from MMA -- wrestling, jiu jitsu, etc. is years of hard nasty training. You train as hard to box, but you're not having to grapple 6 days a week between fights. Why roll around grappling with your sparing partner when you can stand up and box and make a lot more money.

N MUCH OF DE BOKSING FITES ARE PEOPLE STANDING BACK AND WAITING HOURS TO HIT SUM1 N THEN SOME ST00PID GUY GOES IN AKSIDENTLY AND GETS KNCOKED OUT. You can make anything sound simple. MMA is more entertaining than Boxing, easily. In Boxing, lots of boxers wait a lot and take hours to get a clean hit on someone while in MMA the hitting and throwing and kicking happens right away.

TBH, mentioning a Prime Tyson is the same as mentioning a Super Saiyan 3 Goku. They are both nonexistant. Tyson's skill are gone and he has retired, there arent that many special boxers anymore, you have Manny Pacquaio, thats it, Floyd Mayweather, Delahoya, Tyson and all those guys have retired. Its MMA's time now, about 90% (just a guess) of people under 21 favor MMA now over Boxing.

A prime Tyson would've destroyed just about amy MMA guy you can think of, including Fedor. As has already been pointed out, the punch takes much less time to execute than any variation of a kick. Tyson had one-punch-KO power with either hand.

The only thing Fedor et al would have been able to do would be to shoot for the takedown, however that would be a recipe for disaster also, as Tyson's coup de gras was an absolutely devastating uppercut. Shooting for the takedown on a fighter like Tyson would require lowering the center of gravity (Tyson was 5'9"ish and built like a tank) and opening oneself up to the uppercut. After all, MMAers don't shoot for the takedown while covering their faces. The hands reach out and that's asking to get KTFO'd against a pinpoint power puncher like (prime) Tyson.

I'll grant that on the ground the MMAer has a huge advantage. No disputing that. My contention, though, is many of them would eat a bonecrushing uppercut OR be parried and countered with a left or right cross then end up counting sheep. MMA fans in this thread may be forgetting how quick a top flight boxer's reaction time is. These guys (especially your Mayweathers, Joneses, Winky Wrights, Chad Dawsons, Pacquiaos, etc) have/had absolutely unreal quickness not just in their hands and upper bodies, but in their feet, as well. The possibility of them getting taken to the mat is FAR from an inevitability. It is, imo, much more likely that the "shooter" gets caught or parried & countered in the process.

Oh, and I'm under 40.
