Sorry statements like that are r****ded, I never said Yao was my hero. I am simplying arguing on the facts people think Gasol is a better defender and rebounder..........

You provide some evidence and the fools want to call us a YOF, what the he'll is up with that.

I will admit I hate Gasol but that fool would still be trying to win one game in the playoffs without Kobe and Phil. If he was that damn good Memphis wouldn't have traded him for a bag of peanuts. Pau wins one championship and now he is the greatest PF ever seen for the lakers(sarcastic)

I too admitted I dislike him but I did also say he was a good player to have. SEVERAL TIMES. IMO not the No 1 option for the Houston Rockets. We are a scrappy team and I don't like his soft touch on defense. At least Yao has his height advantage.
Pau is a good player but not the only option for us.
Anyway they can't f... stop me from posting. :D

Well the only thing is Pau is healthier. If I was forced to take a player I would take the one that can play, not because I thought he defends or rebounds better. Injury is the key.

True. Nevertheless I think a bunch of Fans outside of Clutchfans and some on it would give Yao a chance to see if he can recover from foot realignment and come back strong. He represented the city very well, is a good teammate and yeah we've gone thru alot with him.
I still believe there are some fans out there who think long term and believe he can come back. Of course in one year we will know. Then it is really time to move on.

Were getting absolutely dominated on defense down low. We dont need another weak power forward thats gonna get beat up down low. The thing is when your 7'6 center goes down and your only legitimate defensive backup had a tragic end to his career you shouldnt bolster the offense anymore. Get the D back in shape

Eh... the triangle is run through the high post. The point guard doesn't "run the Triangle". Funny.

As for Fisher, he was a tremendous liability for the Lakers for a lot of the playoffs last year. He was torched on defense by opposing point guards and his shot was off almost all playoffs long. The main reason we beat the Lakers twice without Yao is because Aaron Brooks like Fisher up like a Christmas tree in those two games. Pau on the other hand had a phenomenal run in the playoffs. They don't win a title without him raising his game in the playoffs last year.

How would you feel if someone of your friends are talking behind your back like that. You could easily have this conversation when those two players are healthy. Otherwise nobody won't do it. Starting Threads like that when someone is working their butts off to come back for the sake of the team is really an insult to the player, shows no real respect. A REAL FAN is realistic about our chances to improve LONG TERM and support its players. Gasol is still a Laker, a rival's player. Mind you. Talking like he's one of our own makes me puke. Trevor Ariza is a Houston Rocket now thru free agency. He said good things about Houston. When did Gasol ever say he wants to come to Houston?

This is not about idolizing Yao or you Fairweatherfan - I don't know what to call you- idolizing Gasol. The average fan who support the idea of having Gasol does not resort to means of verbal insults.

This is a business to maintain (Yao brings in lot more money than Gasol would) and keeping the REAL fans and hard core fans happy.
Ok now without emotions, from a executive's point of view, one has the opportunity to make a trade for your best player arguable.
You get an somewhat healthy player who has excelled with your rival team, but you know he's half the player outside LA land. He's hasn't proven it yet to be really effective in Memphis. He's got a very good offensive game but is somewhat limited in his defense.
As a manager of a team who stresses defense first, that's the first knock.
You know he would probably lead you to the playoffs, taking the other team to 7 games, with a bit of luck would advance into the second Round. That luck is somewhat limited because of the fact that with fierce competition in the West, one is inclined to think we'll get a low playoff seed.
I have to really consider giving up a player who I have built around my franchise for a decade to trade for a second fiddle on a Lakers team, hoping him to fill in the shoes of the once thought franchise player. Really hard decision. The good GM would say no. Yes if I get a chance to get him in a trade favoring us, getting him for players like Landry who is also making strides. Can't overrule the decision of the owner just yet.

By really effective I meant playing like someone who is tough in crunch time during playoffs, being assertive to lead a team. When you haven't won a playoff game in Memphis, you would want to throw a tantrum to wake other players up.

Yes I would in a heartbeat and for one reason only Yao cant stay on the court. We all know Yao is the better player, but I trust Gasol a lot more than I do Yao when it comes to health.

name me the last few PGs who were in the triangle offense and Won a championship? I don't recall scrubs like Chucky atkins.

Please your telling me Chucky Atkins and Jordan Farmer would of worked with Kobe and Gasol. Please explain because the last time I recalled every Championship Phil won was with a PG who understood the triangle offense, you know they still dribble the ball up the court and hit the big 3 point shots.

Yes Derek was sooo bad that they lost a championship. He got burned just like Gasol against the celtics.

Yes despite how slow Derek was against AB, they still won and Derek is still starting.

From another site on PG duties in a triangle offense.

    http://forums.lakersground.net/blog.php/2009/09/22/initiating-the-triangle-offense/

No doubt a good passing Big is needed. But let's not forget Jordans team and who he had as passing Bigs, none of them were known for passing. They just need to understand when to pass.

A PG initiates the offense, he needs to read the position in order to setup a Triangle offense, you lack that piece, there is no start of the triangle offense.

Plenty of links out there that describe what a PG does and how important they are and yes you don't need a traditional PG, you just need one committed to the Triangle offense.

If I was Phil, I would not play him big minutes. But you'd surely seen that Derek is ridiculously clutch. Sure you would use him at the end.

Gasol has had his fair share of injuries and missed games..

    Year Yao Gasol Tracy
    2002-03 82 82 75
    2003-04 82 78 67
    2004-05 80 56 78
    2005-06 57 80 47
    2006-07 48 59 71
    2007-08 55 66 66
    2008-09 77 81 35
    481 502 439

Yao playing less games (21) he still averages 20+ ppg 10+ rebs
Gasol playing more games.. averaging 18+ ppg 8+ rebs

Just for kicks I added Tracy's numbers also.

I agree Yao is injury prone, but Gasol and Tracy have had their share also.
