Is this the longest running thread on the BBS? Sort of a catch all music thread, not much discussion just a place to dump your musical jones for the week. The Best of Journey. DD
Have you listened to their latest album? "Soul on Fire " is another great ballad-like song. Apparently he was about to leave it off because it was too "cheesy," but its actually pretty powerful. In 2005 he was on life support due to a very bad case of pneumonia, and that's what the song is about, as is most of the album.

Ooh, you'll have to let me know what you think about the Beefheart ones (although the FL ones are good too). "Clear Spot" is a little bit easier on the ears and somewhat more commercial compared to "Trout Mask Replica", "Lick My Decals Off, Baby", "Safe as Milk", and his final 3 studio albums. DC, You are talking about "Songs in A & E", I'm assuming? Yea, so far I only have the 2 Spiritualized albums in Lazer and Ladies & Gentlemen but I do plan on getting the rest of their studio albums, eventually. What are your thoughts on "Embryonic"? Have you warmed up to it yet (I still haven't gotten around to buying it yet).
"The Boatman's Call" - Nick Cave "Soon Over Babaluma" - Can "Victorialand" - Cocteau Twins "Blue Valentine" - Tom Waits
Couldn't get into the Beefheart am running calc sets and simulations at work and it was tooooo much for me. will have to try to give it a listen at home. The new flaming lips was pretty good though, was my first listen. was listening to some ambient, but had to take the headphones off,

Victorialand - Cocteau Twins The Modern Dance - Pere Ubu Real Life - Magazine Louder Than Bombs - The Smiths Mark Hollis - Mark Hollis
Yes, it's a music-dump thread- but I do pick up on some good suggestions. Honestly, I grew up in the 70s and don't know where some of you get these bands from- just goes to show I'm out of touch with modern music. Here's my "radical" list of what I'm listening to this week: Bob Marley- Exodus Miles Davis- Sketches of Spain Robert Johnson- King of the Delta Blues Singers Sly and the Family Stone- Stand Jimi Hendrix- Axis Bold as Love The Who- Sell Out Cheap Trick- The Latest (this is still one of the best CDs of 2009 - the best power pop by far among anyone out there- blows Weezer's stuff away, IMHO) And, most importantly: The Tejas Brothers

Yea, I can imagine that Beefheart would not be the easiest thing to listen to when you have to really concentrate on something, lol. I finally broke down and paid 42 bucks and some change for Beefheart's "Lick My Decals Off, Baby" - often considered his 2nd best or 3rd best studio album after "Trout Mask Replica" and "Safe as Milk". It is about as wild as TMR but not as long. It has been out of print since '91, I think, and fetches high prices on the net. Granted, what I bought was probably a bootleg copy but as long as I can rip it to the hard drive and the sound is okay, then I am not going to worry about it.
I know i'll get ripped for this but that's ok. It doesn't sound remotely like anything they've released previously at all. They're back with a new album and a new tour. Creed - Full Circle
mostly......here if you like U2, I think you'd like There Will Be Fireworks. There are some faint similarities, but more than enough differences to make it an interesting "modern" sound. It's a fairly safe album, nothing bizarre, nothing too loud, but it is still filled with a ton of swinging emotions and plenty of movement. Let me know what you think... <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/KZcWUhslSa0&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0x999999"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/KZcWUhslSa0&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0x999999" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0ID65_yx3AU&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0x999999"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0ID65_yx3AU&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0x999999" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

You'll have to let me know what you think about the Magazine CD - is that the only one you have or do you have others?
