I'm thinking that the Joey Dorsey era may be over before it begins. That's just the feeling I get from hearing and reading comments from people in and around the team.

I'm afraid that Joey Dorsey just is what he is. That's one of the fears some had about him when we drafted him. He is a big strong guy who can rebound and who could intimidate in college. In the NBA, he can still rebound, but he can't intimidate anymore and he apparently hasn't improved his offensive moves.

Ben Wallace also got real playing time in real games before he was 25.

Yes,but how long can he hold on to it,and what will he do if he doesn't make it in the league? Europe might be an option for a while. Lack of education and business skills hurts a lot of guys.

    True.
Morey said its unlikely Dorsey will get playing time at the beginning of the season, and did say its likely he go to the D League for a while to work on other aspects of his game.

But Morey also praised Dorsey's ability to rebound and suggested this could get him playing time.

Dorsey is a big guy who can rebound. I'm saying nothing of his mastery of grammar, or his academic prowess. What I am saying is there is no reason to insult his intelligence. He needs to catch up the rest of his game in order to earn some playing time. He needs to stay out of foul trouble, and show more offensively. Right now Chuck displaces all of Dorsey's playing time. Right now there is no reason to play Dorsey over Chuck for any length of time.

I'm curious, what did the Rockets say negative about Dorsey? I didn't hear that. I've heard it suggested on the BBS, but haven't seen anything official. Its rumored or leaked by the Rockets that Dorsey wasn't smart enough, or wasn't working hard enough to earn playing time? Really?

Dorsey has awesome size (although admittedly not height), is an excellent rebounder offensively and defensively. He can run the court well. He lacks in defensive positioning, ticky tack fouls, team defense, and offensive skill set -- when taken together thats a lot that he has to show before he gets any significant playing time. Overall, we need a solid team effort to win, and I'm pretty sure the main holes in Dorsey's game is that when he is on the court many team oriented statistics go down. There is a good chance he could figure out how to do that on the court before the end of this season. Thats what I care about. Whether or not he reads any history books, to me, is irrelevant. I do think its interesting Yao is reading some though. But Yao's dominance in the NBA seems to have more to do with his size and uncanny coordination at that size, rather than his knowledge of history.

And for the record, I definitely think we can and should erect a Chuck wagon statue at the TC. Can Hayesfan sculpt?

Don“t know about his future, but many players needed some time.
Jamario Moon for example is 29 and plays solid for 2 years now.

I think the team has already given up on him and they are just playing out the string. But, he'll be fine. He's made some decent money so far, and he'll be a productive player in some league somewhere. Just because he can't hang with the NBA doesn't mean he can't have a solid career as a professional baller.
