The Nuggets were high on high-flying dunker James White, but he ultimately couldn't get ahead of Joey Graham and couldn't get on the court in the preseason, and so Denver waived White today. White averaged 7.3 points per game in the preseason, but he didn't play in recent games, not even in Denver's Tuesday blowout against Minnesota. It appears the Nuggets' roster is now set with 13 players, heading into the season opener Oct. 28. Earlier in the day, the Nuggets waived guard Dontaye Draper and center Kurt Looby, the team confirmed this morning. Neither played extensively in the preseason and were more practice players. Draper appeared twice, averaging 1.0 point, 2.5 assists, and 1.0 steal in nine minutes per game. Looby only played against Partizan Belgrade on Oct. 3 and had two points, two rebounds and a block in the contest. The Nuggets, who beat Minnesota 129-120 on Tuesday night, continue their preseason schedule Thursday and Friday against the L.A. Lakers in California. Mildly. Mainly because I didn't think the front office would give to Karl's demands to keep Joey Graham.
Its not like he technically couldnt make the roster. They're carrying 13 players, 2 open roster spots.
They should have kept him, even if he didn't play. 13 players is kind of low to keep on the team. What if JR Smith gets injured?
Money saving move. If they need him, they can sign him or a player of that talent to a 10 day during the season.
We should sign him right before the Slam Dunk contest . He would easily win and for Houston Rockets to gain some pub. All your going to hear that weekend is Dallas breaking the Astrodome attendance record because of Jerryland.
More and more teams are carrying fewer than 15 players which means a lot of marginal players like White won't have jobs. He is a strange player, world class jumping ability but only average speed and quickness, he demonstrated a good perimeter shot yet still couldn't make an NBA roster spot.
He didn't show any intensity on the court. Even if people praised his defense and everyone agreed that his stroke looks smooth, you look at his body language on the court and you can't help but think he's half-assing it. Nobody likes professional players who like they're lazy on the court (see T-mac).
I don't know if it was laziness, but you could tell from his body language he had no business being out there. Instead of a lack of intensity, I think he was intimidated, lack things were happening too fast for him.
