:( Somehow I don't really like to fantasize about possibilities that are never going to unfold.

Why aren't we going for Nowitzki anyway?

b/c cuban is not stupid to give him up. he wouldn't trade dirk for kobe straight up 3 years ago. he's definitely not going to trade him for any of the rocket players.

The reason why the Rockets put up fights in the playoffs wasn't just for yao, he had Tmac, and he had Ron Artest along with Scola. Imagine if Yao was in a playoff series without any of those guys helping him out. He would do just as bad, maybe worst than Gasol. Gasol is a smarter defender even though he flops, he doesn't pick up silly fouls like Yao and his basketball IQ is higher.

Sure he gets schooled by KG but Yao would got schooled too by KG. Sure Chuck Hayes shut down Gasol, because Chuck Hayes is one of the best post defenders and he literally shut down KG also. We both have our different opinions and this is just mines. You probably think Yao has more production on the court than Gasol, but I think Gasol brings more to the game than Yao. Gasol is a better all around player than Yao. Gasol is still playing strong right now and Yao is hurt and out for the season. I doubt Yao would come back strong the next season anyway.

Laker's GM would be stupid if he is not going to make this deal and I am glad some fans are not trying to be Rox GM.You put Gasol in Yao's shoes, you still think he can plays 82 games and without KB,can he still plays like last year?I am not saying Yao is #1 but Yao & KB, lakers can make that disicion in heartbeat.

My answer is the same as the Blake Griffin hypothetical example: absolutely. I love Yao but we've reached the point where his longevity is more than just a cause for concern. It's debilitating. I'm sure we'll get him back eventually but the rest of his career will be plagued by the inevitable "Okay, so how long before it happens again?" question.

The Rockets will never deal him and I love him as a player, so this talk is really a moot point to me. But to say you wouldn't pull the trigger on a deal like this after tossing out all the business and monetary variables is really quite foolish at this point.

Ha ha ha!!! Im sorry, but a guy who shoots 87% at the free throw line CAN hit midrange jumpers consistently. And i seem to recall t-mac and yao working the pick and roll all the time. And pau is not even in the same league as KG...every time the rockets played a team pau was on, he vanished from the court...anybody who thinks pau gasol is better than yao ming needs to have their heads checked cuz it aint even an argument....please let the season start!!!!!jeez...

Again. Longevity is cue. I have to agree.
Nonetheless it is the FIRST TIME YAO has the chance to really heal his foot, do the surgery he needs to realign his foot. THE FIRST TIME. And it worked with the BIG Z. I just don't understand why some senior posters jump on the Gasolwagon (a 2nd fiddle) so fast and do not give a chance, show patience to OUR once so beloved lottery pick. That notion is beyond me. Very saddening.

First of all, Lakers would not make this trade. End of story.

And if they did, no I wouldn't trade Yao for Gasol. It's amazing how quickly people give up on a player once they have major surgery.

A PF who occasionally plays the C is not comparable to the No 1 center in the West and the league.
    A travesty.

big z is the best case scenerio, not a likely one thou
you give a guy your franchise and he's needed a surgery every single year
how is it beyond you that our patience is running out?

It is clear that the majority is panicking because of Yao's surgery. It's a faith thing. They try to hide it under the 'Gasol is better than Yao' cloak.
You don't have to be a genius to realize this.
Otherwise why is this becoming a soon be 15 pages thread when neither the Rockets nor the Lakers have confirmed anything in the slightest. Don't give me the reason it's offseason. The season is starting in a few days!!!!

exactly. Well then, I think thank God the franchise is not run by you but Daryl and Les.
Under those guys at least Yao'll get his chance to come back. We'll see then.

FYI the foot never healed. Played major minutes for the national team where everything is focused on him (Whereas Spain plays more of a team ball).
Get your stats right. 3 times surgery till now. It is the first time he'll have time to rest. IF it does not work out, it will be career ending. You don't NEED a trade. Yao would be retired by then.
Just sign Gasol then in your hypothesis.

Yao happens to school all the big names head to head. Traditional centers like Howard, Bynum, Shaq, even Shaq in his prim

The only thing he could not guard well is PNR and the jumper but it wasn't the only thing killing us. Offensively he was a beast.
If somebody fronted him, you cannot expect Brooks to give him the ball. Brooks is not the best passer, he plays more efficient off Yao as a scorer. C'mon that's common knowledge. No wonder Yao's been inefficient. He's not the man hogging the ball. Thats why Adelman stressed Motion offense. When Yao is there, other players have to move instead of dumping the ball to him and stand still.

What about getting Gasol when he'll be a free agent without trading Yao?
by the way, when will he be a FA?
