whenever i read discussion on the late shows, it seems most people dislike jay leno and overwhelmingly most like conan the best. i personally can't stand conan. i like leno's delivery. not a fan of dave either. discuss.
I don't dislike Leno per se, but I have watched more Letterman even since his NBC days... so I couldn't tell you why people dislike them... maybe I will like him if I watch him more, but... I guess I am not someone who DOESN'T like Leno. Is there real data out there that says who likes whom?
Apparently so do most Americans. He always had the top rated late night show. I think Americans just like bland things. Bland Beer, Bland food, Bland comedy.
No, my Dad likes Jay Leno. He's 70, by the way. Edit: Crap, someone already posted something similar. But what I said is true.
I don't think Leno is the funniest of late night hosts, but to me, he seems like he'd be cool to hang out with and easy to talk to. Letterman seems like an ass, and Conan is a giant leprechaun.
I dunno. I saw him on real time with Bill Maher and he was the most awkward person on the panel. His jokes all fell flat, he would shout for like, no disernible reason, and generally seemed incapable of normal banter. Conan and Dave would be better to hang out with, imo, because they're more authentic and not completly inept without a script. Yeah, it was this same way in the 80s. Not that anyone actually hated Johnny, but Dave definitely had the 30 and under crowd.
I'm assuming you've never met David Letterman, and neither have I, but he sure seems like he'd be the least authentic host off camera. He seems bitter and disgruntled to me. Then again, it's just an assumption.
The Sklar brothers hosted the Jim Rome Show a few weeks ago and made a pretty hilarious comment about how terrible Leno is at being funny. I can't recall the joke exactly but I do remember laughing out loud in my car. I can understand why some people would like Leno for the comfort factor. I just look for more out of a late night talk show host. I want the witty comedy factor, too, and I have never been able to come close to getting that from Leno. He's the literal opposite of funny, in my opinion. It's almost sad at times watching him fail.
Leno is the most vanilla, inoffensive, and bland of the big 3 late night hosts, which is probably why a lot of older people like him the best.
Here's the thing about Jay. His jokes are all very safe, and have little real edge. If you were into Jazz music he would be Lawrence Welk while Conan or Dave would be like Count Basie, and Duke Ellington. Or Pat Boone vs. Little Richard. He's just bland. That's my opinion.
