1) Healthy T-Mac 2) Lebron James 3) Healthy Wade of course Yao's gotta be healthy with this fresh young team, we can make it
Trading one of my favorite NBA players ever for one of my least favorite of this decade. Already a no right there. I don't care how skilled Gasol is. He's not franchise a player, he can't lead a team, like Yao can or get tough points, when teams start to focus in on him, defensively. Gasol disappears, remember the how he did against us with Yao and Hayes working together on him, or being guarded by KG and Perkins and his occasional matchup with Pistons. A great defender or good low post defense can shut down Gasol, like fronting can Yao. It also doesn't help that Gasol is a soft defender, last year in WCF, Kenyon Martin, Nene, and Chris Andersen were scoring at will against him. He's a bit healthier than Yao, but I guarantee, if he wouldn't be enough to get this team pass the 1st Round. He's just not going to be able to score, when teams focus on him. Also, defensively, people like to point to Yao being a liability against outside shooters, yet we all know and have seen how Gasol can being a liability against good post players or very aggressive scorers. Also, given his smaller size and less aggressiveness on defense, teams are going to live at going to basket against Gasol.
LBJ could have a chance anywhere. Wade I think would be perfect for this team. A healthy determined hard working T-Mac? Maybe, but he certainly has to shoot the ball better than he has the last couple of years.
This would be a good point if you actually believe Gasol to be the same level of player as Kwame Brown. But we know he isn't, and that this was one of the most lopsided trades in NBA history.
Do you mean Gasol can carry a team? He even didn't win ONE playoff game during his Memphis days. In fact, without him in the final, Spanish national team still won the championship in 2006.
That actually shows how desperate the grizziles were! With Gasol, they could't even win one single playoff game.
I have nothing against trading Tmac for Gasol, then getting Joe Johnson but that's very unlikely to happen.
I would rather have Gasol than Yao on offense.... defensively.. I'd take Yao... it would just depend on my team and who else I would have on my team to determine if I would make this trade or not.
it's not about your favorite player, it's about results on the court Gasol can play outside the paint in offense and defense, Yao cannot, except some shots that he makes from 18 footers for Celtics, i think that you should take a look at their dirty defense here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nepmd2ygMK4
