Cool thread, but the OP should've just said "besides Earl" since he is the obvious answer. Along those lines, here are some others:

Tim Wilson - Our goal line problems wouldn't exist.

Blaine Bishop - Hardest hitting safety in Oilers history.

Elvin Bethea - Mario on one side, Bethea on the other? Are you kidding me?? That's not even fair.

Bruce Matthews - He basically played all 5 O-line positions. Instant running game.

    Chris Chandelier...duh.

(The obvious answer is Earl. The next most obvious answer is Bruce Matthews.)

    Good thread. Besides Earl?

Ken Houston, Curley Culp, Elvin Bethea, or Ray Childress

yeah earl is the obvious choice here. but if you were allowed one for offense and one for defense....

    offense- Earl Campbell

    defense- Ray Childress

with these two additions in their primes, Texans go to the super bowl this year.

other good choices for defense would be Dishman, Bishop, Lathon, Brazile, Bethea, S. Jones, W. Fuller, Daryl Lewis, Mcdowell, K. Houston and a few more that I can't remember.

also it would be fun to just combine the best current texans and the best oilers from 1989-1994 and see what you come up with.

    Campbell is kind of obvious.

    1. Elvis Bethea is good choice for DE, but I would choose someone more modern William Fuller or Sean Jones.

    2. Surprised (but not shocked) no one had said this, but Warren Moon. Schaub is good, but he is no Moon. The Oiler....I mean the Texans might could win a few more games with Moon.

    3. Cris Dishman...the Texans need good, monster CB. Also, he was still pretty good in his twilight years (his mid 30s) with Chiefs and Redskins.

    4. Mel Gray

    5. Choose between Webster Slaughter, Ernest Givins, Chris Duncan, or Haywood Jeffires to play next to Andre Johnson. That would one of the best combo receivers in the NFL.

Secondary - Blaine Bishop, Bubba McDowell, or Darryl Lewis (very underrated cover man). Ken Houston on reputation.

LB - Maybe Lamar Lathon at OLB, he actually had an all-pro season as a true 4-3 OLB circa 1991 but was overlooked - also George Webster from old school days (I didn't see him play so...) Robert Brazile if you run a 3-4.

DL - William Fuller - the FULLER RUSH MAN - or Ray Childress or Bethea

OL - eh you can pick from Matthews/Munchak, but not sure how much difference it woudl make.

    TE - none

WR - Jeffires had size, Givins was the ideal slot man. And who can forget Webster Slaughter - oh wait, I can, he kind of sucked for us.

RB - no need to even mention.

    QB - Moon, obviously.
