Not thread worthy, but I need instant help. Don't know why, don't care why Microsoft did this. Seriously, how do you change it from a .docx to a .doc file so I can email a damn paper? :) Tried online conversion from 3 sites and none emailed, probably will be spammed to death. Again, don't care been up all night with the freaking 7th ed. of the MLA.
*edit: Emailing to fiancee at work for final edit. She doesn't have access to .docx files , nor is she able to download anything on her work computer.

You can also save as a PDF. That way you don't have to worry if the recipient has Word.

Scroll down next to "Save Type As" and go to .doc

I had this issue in the past as well.

    Microsoft Compatibility Pack

For users that still use Office 2003 Stuff, they should probably download this.

Other than that, you can save it as a PDF and send it. Or do like everyone else and save it as a doc file.

Maybe if you had friends you could send it to one of them to convert for you.

lol.. even easier is to just change the extension when you rename the document. When its highlighted to rename... just change the .docx part to .doc... done deal.

They are different formats. Just changing the extension does not change the file type.

I can't believe this question is still being asked two years after Office 2007 came out. I guess it's because I work with it all the time..... not everyone's keeping up with the latest stuff.

By the way, .docx files have more features and takes up less space than a .doc file. It's a superior format, but the thing is that .doc is such a widely-accepted program (thanks to Microsoft themselves), .docx never took off.

Sadly, my company just installed Office 2007 two days ago on our computers.

    I miss 2003 already.

I didn't like it at first, either.

But in time, I came to realize that it's not worse - it's just different from what I was used to.

The frustration came from not knowing where to find the things that I wanted to do. Since I was already familiar with the previous UI, the new UI was frustrating.

But after a while of working with it, I've started to become familiar with the new UI and it's not bad at all.
