I'm talkin' Rocky here, no doubt. Ever notice that he's always beatin' up on non-white dudes? Like in Rocky, of course he's goin' after the black man. And oh no, that's not enough, he decides in Rocky II he wants to beat up the same black guy again, and steal his belt. In Rocky III, who does he fight? Oh yeah, that's right, a black guy. Let's move on to Rocky IV, the most complex of this series. They decide at this point they don't even want Black characters anymore (except for that wussy trainer guy) and just have a big white Russian dude kill the only black guy left, Apollo Creed, greatest man ever. And then Rocky and Ivan duke it out, which is again totally racist cause Rocky hates those communists. And in Rocky V, OH MY! He fights a white dude! And wins. But he decides that isn't satisfying enough so he goes and punches the first black guy he can find, that promoter. Racist scum! Anyone else sick of all these hidden messages in films?
What about in "Demolition Man" where he blew up all those black dudes? What about "Rhinestone" where he roped those black cowboys? They didn't call his movie Nighthawks, "Nighthawks" for nothing What about "Over the Top" where he out arm-wrestled that black guy?
What? Rocky 5? I don't know what you're talking about. That movie never occurred. You must be mistaken.
How about the racism in you see in music videos. What no white dudes are allowed in rap videos? You can't make judgements like that without looking at the reality of the whole ordeal and see that it really does even out. IMO.
I don't see how Rocky is so racist. ROCKY LOST!!!! The black guy won. The white guy put up a good fight. Are white people not allowed to box well against black people? I don't think it had anything to do with racism. Sylvester Stallone wrote the first Rocky, and his DEMAND was that he play the character. So now we have Rocky as white. The race of the champ is meaningless.
Rocky may not be racist, but it sure does suck that Philadelphia honors this fictional character more than it does Joe Frazier. Especially since Stallone lifted a bunch of details about Frazier's life (working at the meat packing place and punching ribs and jogging up the monument) for his story. Incidentally, for you boxing fans out there, pick up Mark Kram's "Ghosts of Manilla" about the Ali-Frazier feud. Compelling reading.
Personally, even though it's the greatest movie ever made, Pulp Fiction has a LOT of racial overtones in it...Check it out: First of all, there are, what...THREE black guys in the entire movie? Come on, this is LA we're talking about here!! I'm pretty sure LA is a little more racially diverse than that... We don't see Marcellus Wallace's face until about halfway through the film. Why? Obviously, the filmakers think that black people aren't as visually pleasing as white people, so they hide his face from us as long as possible.... Then the whole Butch/Marcellus thing. Gawd, that sequence just SCREAMS of racism. First, Butch straight up RUNS over Marcellus. (When he runs over him, Marcellus is carrying a box. While I'm not sure of the boxes contents, my guess is that it's fried chicken). Then, as he's chasing Butch through town, he misses him EVERY SINGLE TIME. What, are blacks too dumb to shoot a gun correctly? Then, when they start fighting in Maynard's shop, it's the WHITE GUY that starts beating up on the black guy. Then, there's the scene in Maynard's basement. Is it the white guy that ends up getting f***ed in the ass? Not a chance...It's the black guy. And what's up with Jules's gheri curl? That is so stereotypical of blacks, it's not even funny. Also, who does Marvin get shot by? You guessed it, he gets shot buy that disco dancing hippie, Vincent Vega. Finally, I'm extremely dissapointed by the number of times the word "******" is used throughout the movie. Tarantino should have used a more PC term in reference to the VERY FEW African American characters in the movie. That just makes me sick! When I buy the Pulp Fiction special edition DVD this August, I'm going to watch it over and over again and look for even more racist undertones!
Haha, fun stuff. Nobody gets jokes anymore! Er, I thought it was funny. I saw a review of Rocky on IMDB and it pretty much said the same thing, although theirs was serious...
