So? Where have you attended NBA teams? I think it would be really cool to visit a home game of every NBA team one day, but so far I've only been to four of the 29 teams. For me: Phoenix, AZ Veterans Memorial Colissieum - Phoenix v. Utah San Antonio, Alamodome - San Antonio v. Phoenix Houston, Compaq Center - Houston v. Sacramento Dallas, American Airlines Arena (Or Center?) - Dallas v. New Jersey
Alamodome SBC Center (Hopefully October 2002) Sadly, I've never been to Compaq Center for a Rockets game and don't plan on it either.
I can only claim one, the Orlando Arena aka TD Waterhouse Centre. I'd like to make it to Phillips Arena to see a Hawks game there one day, and perhaps out to New Orleans should I have a way to get out there.
Some of these arenas have been torn down since, but... Compaq Center Alamodome Reunion Arena (old) Orlando Arena (old) old Heat arena (forgot the name) Market Square Arena (old) Madison Square Garden Continental Airlines Arena America West Arena Staples Center Phillips Arena whatever the Warriors arena is called
Compaq Center many times and.... THE DELTA CENTER! Oh the horror! About 8 years ago, had to go with family to a convention for some deal called "Amway", and it just had to be at the Delta Center..
I have a sort of stadium and arena fetish. I used to design them in my free time and just have a 'thing' for them. Anyways, I've been to following places where the NBA has been played: ** = former home or temporary site Air Canada Centre SkyDome ** Maple Leaf Gardens ** Target Center Bradley Center Chicago Stadium ** United Center The Palace Cobo Hall (Detroit) ** Market Square Arena ** RCA Dome ** Richfield Coliseum ** Gund Arena Buffalo Memorial Aud ** Madison Sq Garden Meadowlands Coliseum Philly Spectrum ** Reunion Arena ** The Omni (Atlanta) ** Alexander Colisuem (Atlanta) ** Georgia Dome ** GM Place (Vancouver) ** Key Arena The Pyramid There may be some that I can't remember off the top of my head, but as you can see I am a very sick person I've also been to plenty on NHL, NFL and MLB facilites - mostly throughout the midwest but also into Texas, part sof the south and the northeast. I like going in when they're empty and taking pictures of the facilities themselves. It can be quite fun - especially if you have to sneak or break in
Courtside, I do the same thing right now. I just got through designing a basketball arena in my Architecture class. It only took 8 months to design and I'm yet to be 1/4 way done. I've been to: Alamodome: Old Spurs McNicholes Arena: Old Nuggets American West Arena: Old Suns Reunion Arena: Old Mavericks drove by but had no intentions to watch a game: Staples Center & Great Western Forum
I used to live on Greenway Place. The Summit was practically next door, yet, at the time, I was not a basketball fan. F***!
The Summit Hemisphere Arena -- Rockets vs Spurs (we won) Reunion Arena -- Rockets vs Mavericks (we won) I saw a Warriors game in Oakland back in the '70s. I'm thinking about seeing the Rockets play the Grizzlies in Memphis next year. JB
Compaq, Alamodome, Reunion Arena, The Omni, United Center, Charlotte Coliseum, New Orleans Arena, MCI Center, MSG, but my favorite..........Boston Garden!!
Maybe I phrased that wrong... I am actually in the sign and graphics business but took some drafting/architecture classes in high school and first year of college. In my free time - or when I can't sleep - I'll sometimes get out the sketchpad and work around some concepts. Once they seem to work, I'll get out the velum and do something a bit more technical but NOT to any degree of completion. When the Raptors and Maple Leafs were both talking about building new facilities I went and put some preliminary sketches together and sent them in. I can't say if mine was any sort of influence - but one of the sketches I saw in the paper of the proposed Leafs arena was VERY similar to mine. It never mattered because the Raptors went ahead and started construction on their own building while the Leafs dithered and anded up having no hoice but to buy the Raptors AND the arena before looking like complete idiots. I also like to sneak in during construction. I was chased by security at the TransWorld Dome in St. Louis and ended up hiding in a Hussey Seating box for 3 hours. The caretakers at the Cotton Bowl were funny: "What choo doin in heah, whayt bwoy?" right before I stole a mounted picture off the office wall, hehe. I heard some cool stories from the caretaker at the University of Illinois who ended up giving me a guided tour of both the arena and stadium, even showing me where Knute Rockne was buried next door. It's a strange hobby but I'm happy to hear someone else is elboe deep into things like I kinda wish I was. You think you might end up with someone like HOK after you're done with school?
Actually, it's not Cat's fault the damn place doesn't have a name. As the story was told to me a couple months ago, there have been some naming-rights offers, but the county agency that oversees the Oakland stadium/arena complex has made itself a pain in the ass to all three teams that play there (Raiders, A's, Warriors) since the fiasco when they bent over financially to lure the Raiders back to town. The Warriors have a 30-year lease, with options to bail out after each 10 years (the next is in 2007). The county won't approve any naming-rights deal for less than the full 30 years. But no company wants to pay for naming rights unless when there may not be a pro team (yeah, yeah, or even the Warriors ) for the last 20 years -- and the Warriors aren't about to commit to staying past 2007, especially given what a pain in the ass the county is. So it's simply ... the Arena in Oakland. Other places I've seen games: L.A. Sports Arena Great Western Forum Staples Center San Jose Arena (GS played there for a year in '96-'97) Target Center (T'Wolves -- not fancy, but a genuine high-school type atmosphere that I liked) Oh, and I saw the outside of the Delta Center, which is right next to the Amtrak station in Salt Lake City.
Compaq Center (every game last yr) Alamodome (Laks v. Spurs 2001) Madison Square Garden (Rocks v. Knicks 200) Moving to Miami soon so I will attend the Rockest game v the Heat (Continental Arean?) and Rocks v. Magic (TD Whaterhouse)
