well, as the 4 players are fighting for the final spot this week, i still do not understand what is Brian Cook doing in our team??? who drafted him?i'd rather have him among these 4 players instead of having a contract
Oh my, well... I think the reason why Brian Cook is still on the team is because hes got the highest ceiling out of all the rookies and brings the type of toughness that this team needs.
agreed. He's physically intimidating and by emotion can will his team to victory (look at the last few preseason games). He is a tall man who can shoot 3's...nuff said.
Not at all. Brian Cook is here because he has a $3.5 million expiring contract. The Rockets have $40,089,892 in expiring contracts this season if they don't pick up team options on any players. This includes Scola, Brooks, and Lowry -- three players who will almost certainly be signed to extensions. Those expiring deals are HUGE NBA commodities. Keeping Cook on the roster allows you to make a deal in February.
I like to think Cook was drafted when 3 point shooting centers like Raef Lafrentz and Tskitisvilli were going to "change" the game with their range. Cook had an inside game Illi, and led them in rebounding, but he just can't bang with NBA centers.
Pops will make it in, and while Conroy's not bad, I will take a 3.5 million expiring contract over him. Temple and Beck aren't good enough.
he was pretty good when i watched him played for the lakers. one of the key bench players for them iirc. tho its mostly the triangle offence and kobe who made him looked good. i mean smush parker was their starting pg for god sake.
Brian Cook is the equivalent of Stromile swift in the Gay-Battier trade. He's the throw in that makes salaries match, and merely uses up a roster spot. He's the cost of doing business. If we're angry Brian Cook and his 3.5M expiring deadweight, we would have been furious with Stromile and his years of remaining MLE money. Too bad the BBS never realizes this when they reflect on that trade.
Now that's the kind of sarcasm you can sink your teeth into. Kudos! I'm not a fan of the current Brian Cook, either. I remember back when he was on the Lakers team, I wanted us to trade for him. I don't remember the specifics at the time, but there was definitely speculation that a trade for him would happen. At any rate, today the guy has proven to care so little about his chosen profession that he willingly got out of shape (though in his defense, he got back into shape this off season). On some nights I can see a determination to 'prove us wrong'. But on other nights, it's just embarrassing to watch him take up a roster spot on our team. Unfortunately, he really is the price of doing business, at least in our case. And his 3.5 million contract is probably worth more to us dollar for dollar than is McGrady's league leading contract. As well, he does provide us with another big body that we can throw into the game when our worthy bigs foul out. At least until we trade his contact some time around February.
The Brian Cook fan club was led by Clutchfans poster aussie rocket. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?p=2994664&highlight=Brian+Cook#post2994664 Apparently he has more pull with Morey than we knew.
Maybe we can send Cook and Brent Barry's contract to New Jersey for ..................................................Rafer Alston?
