When Morey said that I truthfully took it as him speaking tongue in cheek. I doubt he uses it reallistically otherwise he could go to the source and use who EA uses to get those stats. I think Morey has a dedicated team of "guys" who go through that data to get the info he deems needed to make player decisions.

And I doubt he would just put that out there as far as giving away trade secrets to how he makes his decisions.

    Even with that being said.

This guy who is spouting all of this video game numbers as fact and as basis for how the team will do is -- well I don't know that I have a word for it. It is just not realistic or in some cases logical.

There is so much that goes into the game of basketball that a video game has yet to fully capture such as chemistry (true chemistry -- not what 2k feels is...).

And also of note is the fact that 2K also has this thing called "Living Rosters" that will update these ratings as the season progresses based on info it will get from another stats website so what he spouts as fact now will change in itself as the season progresses.

2K is not a fortune teller and neither is their games.

The closest we have to a game of doing that is Madden with it's "Madden Curse"... and I say that tongue-in-cheek.

This thread and "Rockets4279" are about to go down in Clutchfans' history I feel.

But it is at least entertaining... somewhat.

The rockets will miss alot if they do not put brooks and scola in a pick n roll game. The beauty...that we finally have a power foward who can hit the 17 ft jumpers is gold to this team. Brooks can have an all-star type season in a pick and roll offense. With his speed, and agressivness.. this can easily give teams alot of problems. even if brooks is not scoring having him come off picks, while handling the ball would open up alot...ALOT of options for the rest of the team. You add a half-decent tmac to that offense and we will be in every game. I like the motion offense, but a pick n roll.. or a pick n pop plays could be the diffrence in playoffs or not.

I think he was being serious. NBA Live '09 uses data from Synergy Sports as part of its game engine. The Rockets, along with many other NBA teams, are Synergy customers. That makes the video game an interesting tool for doing simulations with different combinations of players. Morey actually did a presentation on the Synergy technology in the video game, if I'm not mistaken, before it came out.

That doesn't mean I think its sensible to assess how good a player is based on their video game rating. That's silly.

I know what your saying can't meassure chemistry or the game can't implament player smarts etc... Some how the topic went bent into something different and that is why i stop posting on this topic.

It is what it is lolz

Pick and roll is good and all, but you need a Deron Williams-caliber PG if you want the pick and roll to carry this team all the way into the playoffs and beyond. Brooks is very small and his passes are often too easily intercepted by bigger and longer defenders. I don't ever see him as a premier passing PG, but yes, his speed can definitely create open looks for his teammates.

Wow. This has got to be the most ridiculous thread I've seen. Trying to predict how good a team will be based upon how many players it has ranking in the top 25 at their positions is weak enough. This isn't fantasy basketball. Then when you consider that these rankings come from a video game ... wow.

Ugh. This is akin to citing Wikipedia as a source on a thesis.

i am sure there are currently 11 shooting guards better than an "injured" mcgrady because those rating are based off of what happened last year. There are a couple of names up there that u posted that a healthy mcgrady certainly out plays in term of production when healthy. I mean seriously to say t-mac isnt a top 50 player is INSANE. top 5? maybe not, we never know but he has the potential to be a top 10 to 15 player if he comes back 100 percent.

If we sift through what the op is trying to say has valid arguments. Now, i'm a video game player also, but i'm not going to base the ratings of a guy on them. Basically what this team has needed and always needed was a guy that can get 20 without the help of tracy or yao. They kinda have that guy in brooks and to a extent scola, but since tracy isn't back and yao is out, they still have issues. If tracy is healthy, he's a top 10-15 player in the league just as yao is, but as we've seen neither has been able to duck the last.

I do think and agree that I think the rox really screwed themselves when they traded that lotto pick that couldve been rudy or ronnie.People keep bringing up swift contract, but mle deals are the easiest contract in the nba to trade, so that a moot point. The bigger point is having rudy or ronnie, the rox wouldve had a guy that could take up some offensive slack without waiting for yao or tracy to get a double team. Not only that, those guys are young, athletic, and can play which is what the rockets needed and still need. We can go on and on, but its the same. In the playoffs or when games are really tight, the rockets have trouble scoring.

That's probably just his excuses when he was caught playing games at work by his boss. ;)

Its been said many times, Rudy wouldn't be a Rocket in any way since we were targeting Sefalosha(Roy was the #1 target but we all know what happened there). Also, if we would have picked Brewer, he isn't exactly a guy that you could count on 20 on a given night or create shots for himself or others.
