Okay, I admit it, I'm a Cato hater. It's not that I hate him personally, I just hate his lackadaisical attitude towards his job.

Now, having cleared the air & established my position on the subject (& I don't care if anyone agrees, it's my chosen position), I propose this trade:

    Houston sends Cato/KT to NY.
    Houston sends Collier to Orlando.

NY sends Kurt Thomas to Orlando.
    NY sends Othella to Houston.

Orlando sends Miller or Garrity/Buecheler to Houston.

    Add draft picks where needed.

NY gets a legitimate center & an up & coming PF to backup McDyess, or replace him, if they decide to package McDyess for a PG, as rumors are reporting.

Orlando needs some muscle up front & gets that in Thomas. Collier gives them a 7 footer that can shoot from outside & hustles.

Houston gets a starting SF in Miller or Garrity, that can also play backup SG. When Cat is out, Miller or Garrity can slide over to SG, while Nachbar plays SF. Othella would replace KT in the rotation & Buechler's contract expires after next year & is added as a throw in to make it work.

Since trading away both Cato & Collier would leave us thin at the center position, we could use our mid-level exception to sign a starting, or backup center.

    Some FA possibilities are:

    Kevin Willis
    Michael Doleac
    Stanislav Medvedenko
    Jelani McCoy
Wang Zhizhi-Cuban won't let us get him.
    Loren Woods
    Jabari Smith
    Rueben Boumtje-Boumtje
    Jerome James-Probably too expensive.

All, but the two that I noted, could be had for some or all of the mid-level. Thus, giving us a lineup of:

    C: Ming/pick 'em
    PF: Taylor/Griffin/Othella
    SF: Miller or Garrity/Rice/Nachbar
    SG: Mobley/Miller or Garrity/Torres
    PG: Francis/Moochie

If Griffin grows enough, he could slide over to the center position.

We get rookie of the year Mike Miller for Kelvin Cato and Kenny Thomas, plus we get Big Fella Othella back. I would do this trade but I don't see it happening. I don't think we will get anyone that would make me want to give up the big man. GO CATO!

I really would like to see the Rockets sign either Doleac or Boumtje-Boumtje, even if we keep Cato. Doleac really seems like Rudy's type of big man, white and can shoot, while Boumtje-Boumtje should come pretty cheap. I would rather see the Rockets deal Collier than Cato right now, I think Kelvin will be a good compliment to Yao's game, even if he is grossly overpaid.

NYK would be stupid to get rid of Thomas. He's the toughest guy they have on that team.

I'm sorry to say but Cato will be the opening night C. Francis will be out of the starting line up also. This will be your opening night starting line up for 2002-2003: Norris Cat Cato Rice KT

Cato is better then we give him credit . He would be a very good backup for Ming and will be needed. If you consider trading him I think you would be surprised how many teams would like to have him. He did improve last year and who knows if he will improve even more this year. I hope he does.

This trade does nothing for the Rockets. We need players that defend Shaq. If you trade Cato, you need a center in return. The Road goes through Shaq.

No more trades. No more additions. No more subtractions. Give this team a chance. Let them develop some TEAMWORK!

By the way, I am not a fan of #13.

no way hatas. i propose that cato should be given the credit he deserves. it is statistically proven that when cato played the team won, more then they lost. cato should get an incentive to play better,(maybe a pay raise). then he would be even better than he is now!

Kelvin... are you on crack? Put the pipe down and go to bed! There's no way we're giving Useless a raise... she's already overpaid! :p

During another season I would agree. But I believe the thinking now is that the Rockets need to at least get into the playoffs. And a center we need for that end is one who will care over the 82 game marathon. Cato is paid to care, but not living up to his side of the agreement. Ergo,...

I agree! Let's give him the credit he's earned. Here's the Rocket's record when Cato played last year. He must've put the team on his back & carried them to the playo.........., no, wait! We didn't make the playoffs. Let's see the record when Cato played.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/gamelog?statsId=3185

    Oct.: 1W-0L cool!!!
    Nov.: 6W-9L hmmm?
    Dec.: 2W-10L :(
    Jan.: 6W-9L hmmm II
Feb.: 3W-5L I'm starting to see a trend here.
    Mar.: 6W-10L I don't get it.
Apr.: 2W-6L Thank God, it's over!

Totals with Cato in the game: 26W-49L for a winning percentage of 35%.

Totals with Cato not in the game: 2W-5L for a winning percentage of 29%.

So, that means that Cato increased our winning percentage by 6%. If we multiply that 6% difference by a full 82 game season, Cato, being in the game for all 82 games, would get us 5 more victories than we would get without him in the game. WOW!!! These stats are from last year, which all the Cato supporters are basing their arguments on, to trumpet his improvement.

So much for stats backing up your argument.

So, catoinstitute, which big-man camp is Cato going to this summer? Must have missed hearing about his ferocious workouts at Westside. Guess I've missed hearing about ANYTHING he's been doing to improve his game and get in shape BEFORE the season is 2/3's over this time. We've been hearing good things regarding Griff, MoT, and Rice... what's up with Kelvin? Hmmmm?

I've been wanting to ask what institution your in, but that wouldn't be nice, so I won't. (here's your :))

Here's another 3 way trade that makes some sense.

Houston sends Cato/future #1 to Toronto.
    Houston sends KT to Orlando.

    Toronto sends Olajuwon to Houston.
Toronto sends Keon Clark (S&T) to Orlando.

    Orlando sends Miller to Houston.
Orlando sends future #1 pick/DeClerq to Toronto.

Houston gets a starting SF/backup SG in Miller & Dream comes back to backup Ming & offer guidance to the kid. Dream also, gets to retire in a Rocket's uniform.

Toronto gets two big centers in Cato/DeClerq & two #1 picks (Yes, I know this is a reach & probably won't be accepted).

Orlando gets two young, athletic big men in KT/Clark to bolster their front line, while moving DeClerq's salary.

    Houston's new lineup would be:

    C: Ming/Dream/Collier/FA?
    PF: Taylor/Griffin/FA?
    SF: Miller/Rice/Nachbar
    SG: Mobley/Miller/Torres
    PG: Francis/Moochie

I thought catoinstitute might actually be Kevin Cato before. But now I don't think so. Cato wouldn't be saying all these stupid stuffs to make himself look bad.

Hottoddie, your first trade proposal is pretty realistic, although I tend to agree with Oski that Kurt Thomas is the toughest guy on the Knicks team.Boumtje-Boumtje could be a good defender and might not be too expensive to get.
