I think the Rockets like to make trades with Vancouver. And you know wants a PF or a C.So what about this... Vancouver gets Cato Rogers #9 pick 4.5 million exp Houston gets Harrington Scott #2 pick Vacouver dose it because: they need big men and still get the# 9 pick to get a good first round player. Houston dose it because: they get Harrington back(which both Harrington and Houston likes) a good 3-point shooter in Scott and the # 2 pick. The only ? i got is does it workout with the salaries? ------------------
This trade is hard to judge. Looking at it in the beginning, my immediate response was hell yes. Harrington is better than Cato mainly for salary reasons, and Scott and Rogers are just role players. And then we move up from 9 to 2. It all looks good but... who is our future center? Even though we gain so many advantages, I still might pass that up because we would have a huge hole in the middle. Do I want to trade Cato? Yes. He is not worth his contract, especially with a lack of work ethic. However, I do not want to trade him if I can't get a center in return somewhere, because centers are very hard to find these days and without Cato we might have some trouble. Maybe we could change Cato to Kenny Thomas. Then we might have a deal. ------------------
Orlando dosnt have a real center ( meaning in size.) John Amachie still seems to do good at his position. If the Roxs r so worried about drafting a center, we could get Chris Mihm if he isnt taken befor the 2nd pick which is not at all likely. If we do get the 2nd pick as part of this trade IMO, I would draft Swift or K-mart. One of them could play at the center position. If they are having trouble gaurding some of the C we can just do what the Blazers did to Shaq-have every player jump on him and foul the crap out of him, when he gets the ball. ------------------ Roxs team of the furture. IM bACK!!!!
It's amazing how much one year changes things... I think Othella really is a poor fit for this team. He's really slow down the court for a PF, and his best offensive game is deep in the post. The only positive I see is that he did develop a nice 15' jumper and he has enough bulk to be a good pick, but all in all I don't think his skills would be well suited to the Rockets anymore. ------------------
Salaries do not work. Not even close Cato ($5.3MM-BYCamount) + Rogers($2.6MM)= $7.9MM Harrington ($2.2MM)+ Scott ($1.3MM)= $3.5MM (inflated 10% for 2000/2001 salaries) Rockets would be trading down in salary so that is acceptable and there is no need to involve the Trade exception Grizzlies (who will be over the cap) would be trading up by around $4.4mil. This trade would need someone else from the Grizz to make it work. Don't forget draft picks have no salary value in trades. ------------------ http://rocketdavo.tripod.com
If you put in Thomas... that is an interesting concept. I'd do that deal. It fits salary-wise I think, we keep our trade exception, we gain a decent player in Othella, and move up in the draft to get KMart or Swift. Overall, I think it is an excellent deal. One problem though- why would the Grizz make another bone-headed deal with the #2 pick two years in a row? I don't think they'd buy it. But if they do, then hell yeah I'd do that deal. ------------------
how about instead of scott and o harrington, we get reeves only....salaries would match i think.....if not they can throw in chump change.....then it would be cato rogers #9 pick any part of the 4.5 exception needed for reeves and #2 this way we have SOMEONE at center when hakeem leaves....he will improve via hakeem and cd althogh not much....but we won't need to ply pig at the 5 anymore then....we take k-mart, if not taken, then stromile if k-mart's taken... 1-francis 2-mobley 3-anderson 4-swift/k-mart 5-first year hakeem, reeves off bench...then second year reeves with some aging free agent center off the bench.... the thing is, if u look at our line up, scoring is not required from the center....just some hustling, rebounds and putbacks....what do you say?
If you substitute Thomas for Cato it would work: the salaries will be:- Thomas ($0.9MM) + Rogers($2.6MM)= $3.5MM Harrington ($2.2MM)+ Scott ($1.3MM)= $3.5MM (inflated 10% for 2000/2001 salaries) If Vancouver did this deal they should be shot - absolutely one sided in our favour. Just for reference, if you want to look up the salaries yourself, you can use my web page http://rocketdavo.tripod.com It has details on all rockets salaries and links to "Patricia's Basketball stuff", which has all the other teams salaries. ------------------ http://rocketdavo.tripod.com [This message has been edited by davo (edited May 26, 2000).]
No- we definitely don't want Reeves. His work ethic and contract are both even worse than Cato's. And if you get him, you can kiss next year's cap room goodbye. Stay away from Big Country! ------------------
