I'd like to pick up a netbook with a 9-10" screen for under 300 bucks -- any suggestions ?

I'm leaning toward an Acer with a 10" screen and 6 cell ion battery for a little over 300 -- can I get something better ? I've seen some refurbs on newegg going in the low 200's, but i'm concerned with the quality. There are also some cheap brands i've never heard of before like MSI, which seem sketchy at best.

Looking for some advice - thanks.

I recently got an Acer for $299 from Frys.

You want to be careful to not get stuck with a crappy processor.

5 cell or 6 cell battery at least.

I forgot to check Frys - thanks -- seems like everything has intel atom processors.

I'm going to be using this thing to play around on the web and very light work from home so I definitely want something on the cheap.

Most all netbooks have the crappy 1.6ghz atom. As long as you don't try to stream webpages at once you should be good.

Unless you just need/want a small notebook/computer, I'd rather spend $399 on a laptop than $299 on a netbook. That $399 includes a "real" 2 GHz dual core Intel processor, a 250GB HD, 2 GB ram, a dvd burner, 15.6" screen, etc, etc.

But then again, maybe you don't want to spend the extra $100 or want something even smaller.

Besides surfing the net, does anyone use their netbook primarily to remotely connect to a desktop or a laptop? That is the #1 reason I'm thinking about getting one.

The displays are too small. I can fit a 10" netbook inside my portfolio (which I take everywhere) and could use it whenever I needed to. Smartphones are sometimes OK for the internet but not for RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol).

Yeah, i've got a big laptop and a old desk top -- i'm looking for simple and ultra-portable that's not a phone.

    Get a Dell Netbook.

I heard that Win 7 runs incredibly well on Netbooks.
If you can wait, make sure it has Win 7 installed.

You're a donut - what the hell are you going to do with a notebook??

Here you go - just click the link on their page : http://www.techbargains.com/news_displayItem.cfm/182536

Black Friday is also coming up in a month if you can wait that long. No telling what kind of good deals may be out there. I'm holding out for around the holidays for better deals.
