I haven't had the time to follow the team during the preseason so I figured i'd ask you lot who have to fill me/us in on how Pops Mensah Bonsu is doing/has done so far. What are his chances of making the team? What does it look like he needs to work on?

    thx.

Pretty much everything. He can't shoot. He's not a good defender, and he's undersized. He can jump but that's it. I haven't really seen anything else impressive about the guy. I mean, if the Rockets HAD TO guarantee a spot between Pops, Temple, Conroy, and Beck; Pops is the most likely to make the team because he's the tallest but I'm honestly a little underwhelmed from what I've seen so far in the pre-season.

id want him on the team. if dorsey dont pan out it'll be real good backup. inside defense will struggle, but adding more bigs to the rotation can help w/ everything, more importantly the fouls. i wouldnt be surprised if one of scola/andersen/landry foul out every 3 games if pops isnt on the roster. its lookin like there's gonna be more fouls w/ these new asswiping refs.

even if dorsey gets playting time, he'll still be foul prone, w/o a true big who can man the paint, they need all the pf/c they can get. but then they can play a lot less defense, wont need extra bigs for that

He reminds me of Mike Harris + 3 inches. Which, if you weren't keeping track, is an improvement.

    This.

The guy goes out and gives it his all, he's just struggling right now to fit into this team.

Just an energy hustle player. And he has to excel in those just to make the team.

He can't shoot. He can't post up. He can't block shots. He can't defend.

He knows how to put a body on somebody and rebound.

He needs to work on his footwork and get some post moves.

I hope he makes the team just because he has a cool name.

    Yeah I said it.

I dont think its gonna matter too much who our 10-12th man is this season, may aswell be a guy with a cool name.

    Pops Mensa Bonsu.

I watched some of his games when he was back in Toronto and he was a pretty nice and energetic back up. Nice verticals, wingspan, always up for rebound etc...

It amazes me that these cats don't work on their weaknesses. Shoot 500 shots a day with good form. Work on back to basket moves. Pull out a dream video. Learn how to block shots.

The guaranteed money killed the NBA. That's how u can explain Brian Cook

He's athletic, long, has energy and can jump outta the gym.

He's the definition of raw NBA talent.

as of right now imo he's a better finisher, free throw shooter, team defender, shot blocker and less foul prone then dorsey.

Not sure about better shot blocker. But Pops is not a better rebounder or post defender.

It's between him and Conroy to make the team. Hope they make it both.

But the original comparison was not to Chuck, it was Dorsey to Pops. Both Dorsey and Pops are considered short to play center in the NBA, but Dorsey (due to his girth & strength) has better potential at playing the 5 than Pops IMO.

And Dorsey could be the best rebounder on the current team, that's including Chuck.

Niether Dorsey or Pops are shotblockers.
6'8" Battier and T-Mac are better shot blockers than Dorsey or Pops. They are about the same height, but Dorsey and Pops weigh more.
