I went with Apatow simply because I can better relate to the humor.

Think both offer very different styles of comedy

    Apples to orange slices.

Apatow's films have considerable more substance while at the same time are infused with the typical sophomoric, crude humor.

Farrelly's haven't made a decent flick in a while. "The Heartbreak Kid" was terrible. They started off so well. Dumb and Dumber and Kingpin are comedic triumphs in their own right. It shall be interesting to see what they've put together for the upcoming Three Stooges movie.

Dumb and Dumber are masterpieces. I haven't seen another comedy by the Farrelys that even comes close (and that includes Something about Mary). Meanwhile, even the Apatow films that don't bank well in the box office I enjoy, both as comedies and on other levels. 40 Year old Virgin is on the same level as Dumb and Dumber/Kingpin as is Knocked Up and Pineapple Express. Haven't seen Funny People yet.

You know, it's funny. Until now when I looked it up, I had thought that Superbad was directed by Apatow. I didn't know that was someone else's baby entirely.

Apatow is involved as a producer/writer with a lot of the projects of guys like Rogen and Jason Segel (Whom he helped further their careers by casting in Freaks and Geeks). Most everything he's touched has turned to gold lately. A far cry from his humble beginnings producing shows like "The Critic" and writing screenplays like "Heavyweights" and "Celtic Pride"

Of the Apatow movies, The 40 Year Old Virgin is the only one I truly enjoyed. Knocked Up was OK, Funny People was a snoozefest.

I think I've realized that I really don't like any character Seth Rogen plays. The less Rogen = the better the movie.

I need to re-watch Superbad because I just didn't like it the first time around. I couldn't get over how big of a douche Seth Rogen's character was in that movie.

I don't really like any of Apatow's movies. They're just really stupid and the characters always seem dorky. I also agree with SirCharlesFan. Less Rogen= Better Movie.

I haven't watched much of the Farrelly Brothers movies. Dumb & Dumber is one of my all-time favorites and Something About Mary was funny. I haven't seen Kingpin or Shallow Hal.

I still don't understand all the Seth Rogen hatred.

I think the dude is awesome for the most part. Loved his character in Knocked Up, but then again I love everything about Knocked Up.

The only movie of his I really hated was Observe and Report.

    That movie was just putrid.

Can't forget Road Trip, aka the movie where we get to see Amy Smart's sweet, sweet (censored for the sake of DaDa's kids)

I that case, don't think about renting Observe & Report. Which we probably should have seen coming as a bomber when they casted that Farris chick as his love mate. That flick was so lame.

Also Franco was funnier in Pinneapple Express, IMO.

Oh, but to answer the OP's question... Farrelly Brothers.

    For Dumb and Dumber alone.
