This thread is glorious. If I only I could go back to 1995... I can picture it now. I'd be wearing LA Gear sneakers, jean cargo shorts, a neon ninja turtles shirt with a zip-up Rockets team jacket over it... Man, I miss those days.
there's one arcade game from the 90's, whose name I've always had trouble remembering... that is, interestingly, never mentioned in any of these threads for some reason... it was one of those "cockpit" type driving games.. that unlike most at the time had a 1st person prespective.. it was somewhat three-dimensional.. polygonal.. and had equal emphasis on proper driving, as well as finishing the track under a specified time restraint, with some of the trickiest moments in the game being "loopty-loop" like roads in certain parts of the track..
I also remember it being rather costly, no matter how entertaining it was.. it was either two or three quarters per play..

Can someone find me a Coin Op Version of "Punch Out?" I still want to beat so many of those dumbasses.
For beat 'em ups, I'd add Alien vs. Predator which was also by Capcom. Pretty sweet game with 4 characters, with the girl having a lot of unique moves. I think the Spider-man beat 'em up is the 4 player one which included Spider-man, Blackcat, Namor, and Hawkeye. That was always an old favorite of mine as well. There's also a Punisher one as well that's pretty decent.
This is just Contra with Better graphics. The true one to play was Punch Out. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/BtTmIBQmTc8&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/BtTmIBQmTc8&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
This is it for me. They also had a knock off on 3do, but this was my game in college. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5gqyuFBNkWY&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5gqyuFBNkWY&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Some not 90s, but: - Turbo OutRun - Elevator Action - Stargate/Defender II - Robotron - Killer Instinct
Tried out Robocop 1 & 2. Pretty fun, mostly because it's Robocop. And after enough mentions I got Golden Axe 2. I forgot about the cool characters in that: a female minotaur and a dwarf that rides on top of a barbarian's shoulders. I forgot about Virtual On and Sunset Riders. I'm going to see if those work. BTW, I wasn't a fan of the racing or shooting games (although I did include T2 on my list for nostalgia reasons). I'll PM you the links to get it working since this stuff is technically illegal. Was it much different from Mike Tyson's Punch out though? Run & Gun was fun, but it was kind of broken if you didn't control yourself. You could do alley-oops all day and it was too easy. I'll check this out strictly because of the Newsradio reference.
That was 80's, peepaw. This thread is about 90's games. Side note: I used to own a Punch Out arcade cab. This thread is making me want to bump my next MAME cab to the top of the hobby list.
Well, I looked this up, and it turns out that it debuted in 1989, but it was around a lot of video arcades throughout the 90s, so I'm going to say it counts: Ivan "Ironman" Stewart's Super Off Road I fed more quarters into this game than any other, and it's not even close. My dad also had the game for DOS back in the day and I loved playing it. Nothing better than loading up on nitro and blowing everyone out of the water. My most hated track on the game was the one where you kind of went in a figure 8. I'd always get hit by another truck and end up going the wrong way.
Keeping it '90s Hours of fun - NFL Blitz! <object width="445" height="364"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/v/raDy5YFioQU&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0x999999&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/v/raDy5YFioQU&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0x999999&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="445" height="364"></embed></object>
