You're right on the money. It's there job to get people to bet. The house never loses especially on sport betting and a few other games. But they work the odss in their favor everytime. Craps hasthe best odds when it comes to beating the house.
Yes!!! I have to agree...I just don't see us being that good like i said before I see us winning around 34-38 at best... I would Instead love to see is the rockets load up on draft picks...given that after "Wall" the draft is rich in talented Big men...and a ton potential sleepers that can be obtained near the middle(10-18) and toward the end(19-30) of the 1st round...(John Henson, DeMarcus Cousin, Greg Monroe, Craig Brackins... etc...) -rocketblaze
Unfortunately, this wasn't the Vegas line; it was local. However, I'm guessing that it was either close or based off of the Vegas line as the OP put it. 2008-09 NBA Teams Over/Under I was interested in seeing what they predicted last season as well. I was disappointed to find that they were right on the money at 53.5 for 08-09. I think it might be time to call it a rebuilding season, so get your towel ready. I just have a very difficult time doing so knowing how much heart and hard work these guys are going to put into the season. My earlier prediction for the upcoming year was 42 games minimum. That seems too generous now.
Planning a season towards drafting a lottery pick is as smart as playing the lottery everyday thinking you'll be the "lucky one". The lottery system is flawed and the worst team sometimes doesn't even get top 3 picks. ala Celtics. To hope for "your" team to lose games to get more ping pong balls is asinine. Lottery teams lose chemistry and settle on trying and not winning. I'd rather my team try hard and squeeze out a win than lose to potentially draft an unproven rookie.
I kinda feel like putting my money where my mouth is and I think the Rockets win at least 42 games. No team in the NBA plays harder than the Rockets, which means they're in every game where the other team doesn't play well and a lot of them when the other team does. When Tracy comes back, we suddenly have a talent that opens things up for teammates and voila, at least 42 wins. I know their are questions about Tracy, but these are questions we didn't have two years ago when he wasn't injured. I'm not sure why a healthy Tracy McGrady would be anything less that a 20/5/5 guy.
he's been injured since 06-07. if he's truly healthy, things will change A LOT. but it could be the other way around and his career is over.
Hey, 35 wins - that would be nice IF WE WERE IN THE EAST It is doubtful this team will make the playoffs but they should at least be sorta fun (and heartbreaking) to watch
I know we're down 2 stars, but this team (essentially) won 2 games in the second round of the playoffs against the NBA champions last year. With Rick the Ruler at the helm and with the way the team plays, 35.5 just seems like easy money on the over.
I think it is worth mentioning (forgive me if somebody already did and I missed it) that this prediction of 53.5 was made when the Rockets were expected to play McGrady, Yao, and Artest. We all know what happened, if Vegas had known what was coming I don't think the prediction would have been 53.5...
Who's to say they didn't? both McGrady and Yao have serious injury history so predicting 53.5 may have taken that into account.
What you are talking about is "tanking," and most of us are not talking about throwing the season to get a good draft pick. I want the the team to give their best, fight, scratch, and claw for every victory. All I am saying is that IF they don't make the playoffs, it might not be the end of the world. In fact, it might be a blessing in disguise.
Main thing you have to think about, this is just a projection. Doesnt account for injuries to other teams, trades, etc.
True, I had thought about that but had discounted it, possibly too much, maybe I'm guilty of trying to play the "the Rockets are always discounted" card...
42 is the number from which all meaning can be derived, I say that's how many games they'll win. I'm taking the over on 35. Too much heart, too much to prove, and these guys are used to being without their stars and being asked to perform.
I hope we win atleast 40. If we do that, then adding Yao next year means a deep run in the playoffs. Unless we get destroyed by injuries like always
You really think a multi-billion dollar industry would forget to take into account the possibility of something like injures?
Apparently, Vegas has better hope for the Rockets than most of everyone else on the bbs. Top 8 team with no/limited McGrady and no Yao. They must have a ton of faith in Adelman and his system. lol...Vegas thinking Rockets > Jazz !!!!!!
