Seriously, why do they keep handing off to that women beater Chris Brown

    LOL JK

I really don't understand why everytime we get to the goal line we lay the game in the hands of a guy that had 1 good season his whole career and has done nothing since.

Even if Schaub would have QB sneaked it, he actually brought them back. Or even Slaton I know he's not as big as Brown but he's a way better runner.

Every time they hand off to Brown it seems like he just puts his head down and plow straight up the gut, doesn't even look for an opening to slide thru or a hole to cut up.

I don't think they should use this guy on short yardage or goal line situations again.

Because Slaton hasn't proven he can push a pile this season and Chris Brown scored on a goal line run earlier in the game.

They should have Brown in there, but at least try something more creative.

Andre Ware brought up a good point after they were stopped...what happened to the rb jumping over the pile? That was at least as effective as trying to run through it. Slaton could have done that...

They seem to have a better than average QB sneak. I don't know why they are capable at that, but not a goal-line run? Not a big Chris Brown fan at all, but it would seem to be more o-line related....for whatever reason on a QB sneak, the o-line gets push, on hand-offs, they don't...

i thought brown could have made it if he went over the top. THe way he just sort of leaned into the crowd of people was a WTF moment for me.

Was it really necessary to start a new thread about this? Chris Brown is not the only reason we lost yesterday. How about Schaub with the terrible throw to a wide open tight end one play before? How about our entire secondary getting burnt like toast the entire first half? How about our terrible game planning from our genius coaching staff? How about not being able to convert a simple field goal?
That's what is so frustrating about the Texans. The have just as much talent as other teams, but lose because of stupid mistakes and poor execution all the way around.

Uh, this isn't the only time Chris Brown has screwed up...

Im not saying he isnt garbage, because he is, but its not like Steve Slaton has done anything this year. My point is that Brown is one of many problems the Texans have.

Slaton hasn't been the rookie of last year making fantastic plays and running the ball well but he has been far from unservicable.

Honestly, I don't want this to turn into a dump Kubiak thread but, the Texans seem to predictable. It was said before that they call a play into Schaub and he has no choice but to run the play, no audibles, no nothing. Even if everyone is in the box on an all out blitz Schaub can't call out of the play and get a good chunk of yards it seems.

That should tell you a lot about the confidence Kubiak places in Schaub.

On topic: I think we need to try out another RB near the goal line, if that doesn't work just hand off to Leach, I'm sure he'll push the pile much further than Brown has in many of his goal line stumbles.

Brown is just not a goal line/short yardage back. It's frustrating that they try to force him in that role- he can actually be an effective spell-back since he is a good downhill runner, but they are trying to use him in the wrong situations. Just because he is big does not mean he is your best short yardage runner.

He is actually rather slow out of the backfield, and the first thing you need as a short yardage back is a burst to hit the pile with. I guarantee you Slaton and even Moats (by the way, why the hell wasn't he getting any carries??) would've had a much better chance in those situations. Hell, I'd even put Andre Johnson back there and give him a shot. I'm a big fan of running to the outside in short yardage, that way the defense spreads a little more to protect the corner and there are more openings to get that yard. If you run up the middle, they all converge and nothing opens up. It's really not that hard, and our play calling absolutely baffles me in these situations. It's pathetic.

The sad thing is, even with us not showing up in the first half, we still could've won this game rather easily. Unbelievable.

Slaton has made it clear that he can't get the job done.
Brown has made it clear he can't get the job done.
Vonta Leach has proven he can't help at all in the run game, which is baffling for a starting FB.
The O-Line has demonstrated that they will be pushed backwards in short yardage situations.

What in the world do you do?

I wouldn't mind giving Moats a look, but it would take a HOF back to overcome a line that can't even hold their ground.

We've got to get bigger guys on the line, if only for short yardage situations. The starters are simply overmatched when it comes to pure brute force plays. They were built to be a finesse dancing zone blocking unit, and can't handle smashmouth football.

I thought Chris Brown did a nice effort for as far back as he was hit. Short Yardage is all about momentum. Brown isn't getting to full speed because he is hitting defenders too soon. He made it much closer than I expected.

My blame goes to the guards and center. If they didn't suck, QB sneak would have been the play.

I don't see how you can blame Chris Brown on that play when Myers, Studdard and Briesel were ALL shoved back, and Leach was met IN THE BACKFIELD. We saw the same thing happen on 3rd and 1 earlier in the game, AND on 2nd and GOAL on that very same series. I just DON'T understand why you continue to try and run up the gut when you have exactly ZERO of the tools needed to be a good smashmouth team in that situation. We have a HIGHLY undersized Center, two Tackles who get NO push when they are asked to stand their ground, and a running back who is slow to get out of the backfield. I'm sorry, but that series sits squarely on the shoulders of the O-line, and the coaching staff.

Thank you for posting this. Every time they hand off to Brown i think, OH NO, and EVERY time, he lives up to it. I swear the dude has a chip inside him that just stops him after 2 yds. He needs to GO. So does Turk. Sure he's consistent, but this is the NFL, we need someone who's consistent and doesn't kick like a little girl.

 Turk's still one of the better punters in the game and he's had a good year
