Jeremy Foster reported on 610 that Eddie Griffin will indeed be with the team in LA next Monday. He also said that Rice and Mo T will join the team but will probably only workout...but not play
im glad to hear griff is going to take part. Rice and mo should take place to get in shape and get there legs back under them.
Thanks. Hopefully Nachbar will be there (as reported) as well, and we'll get a look at our forward tandem of the future. Other guys I'm pretty sure will be there- Terence Morris Tito Maddox Jason Collier Tierre and Torres might also play for us. Maybe we'll have another Axel Dench sighting, too? I think there's a limit on who can compete (based on years of service), so that would definitely exclude Rice, and probably Taylor, and maybe KT. As an aside on Mo going to LA-I know he's working out in Houston. I saw a clip of him yesterday working out at Westside, when they were doing a segment on Rashard Lewis (who was wearing a Seattle shirt, BTW). He said he's looking forward to playing with Yao, and he's almost in 100%. He looked like he was slightly overweight, but was still moving pretty well, so it was probably pounds he'll be able to play off in the next couple months in workouts. (It also looked like Eddie was also playing at Westside, but he was just in the background, and there wasn't a clear shot of him, so it could've been someone else).
Hey Nikestrad, Who was doing a segment on Lewis and what was it about? Do you know? Also thanks for the news on mo...
Old Man: I saw it too. It was on channel 13. They said Rashard didn't want to talk on camera and said he was home for the summer weighing his options. The interviewer said the Rockets most likely don't have enough money to sign him anyway. They mainly talked to Taylor. He looked much better than he has in previous photos we've seen.
We'll probably see those same guys that we have from the draft a couple years back. Venson Hamilton and some other dude. They havn't made it to the NBA yet but we give 'em a shot every year.
Truly a sad day in franchise history, as the Langhi era comes to an end. We'll have to watch him blossom into Tom Chambers on another team Langhi left off summer list Nachbar to make Rockets debut at California camp By JONATHAN FEIGEN Copyright 2002 Houston Chronicle The Rockets' Summer Pro League team will set up the start of several interesting battles for roster spots with one telling omission. Dan Langhi, a second-round Rockets pick in 2000 and a star of the team's previous two summer teams, was not included on the team that was announced Tuesday, likely indicating the end of his Rockets tenure. With Glen Rice, first-round pick Bostjan Nachbar and Terence Morris under contract on a team with few roster spots open and 12 players already signed to guaranteed contracts, the Rockets did not pick up their option on Langhi's contact, making him the apparent odd man out. The Rockets also did not pick up their option on guard Oscar Torres' contract. But Torres is included on the summer league team and will have a chance to earn a roster spot that came to him easily as an offseason find last summer. Torres and Tierre Brown could find themselves competing with second-round pick Tito Maddox for a backup guard position. Maddox could get playing time at both guard spots. The summer league team still could add Rice and Maurice Taylor. Both are scheduled to work out with the team and have asked to play in some of the Rockets' seven games at Long Beach (Calif.) State. Because both missed more than 25 games last season, they would not count against the Rockets' allotment of veterans under league rules. General manager Carroll Dawson said Taylor has appeared to be progressing well from his Achilles' tendon surgery during rehabilitation during workouts at Westside Tennis Club. Dawson said the team will measure Rice's progress since January knee surgery before deciding whether he will play for the summer league team. The Rockets might, depending on workouts, add Rice and Taylor to the team, Dawson said. "He missed a year, but he's a pro," Dawson said of Rice. "It's surprising that he wants to do it, but it's encouraging, too. Mo's playing right now, and the reports are good." Last summer's draft picks, Eddie Griffin and Morris, are also scheduled to play at Long Beach. Kyle Hill, a guard whose rights the Rockets acquired in the three-team sign-and-trade deal that sent Shandon Anderson to New York, will play for the Rockets for first time. Hill played last season in Europe. Nachbar is also scheduled to see his first action with the Rockets. Center Ike Nwankwo, who played for the Rockets through last preseason, will return to his college for the summer games. "It's big for Oscar, Eddie, Terence, Jason (Collier)," Dawson said. "It's an important summer. When you've got young people, the more experience you get, the more you can grow." But the most interesting competition might be in the backcourt. "We like (Torres') size and body and strength," Dawson said. "He has a good shooting touch. He started out very well shooting the ball. He didn't finish as strong. That's one of the things we're going to be looking at. "Tierre had a pretty good year. It's going to be good to see him with this team." The Rockets are no longer sending a team to the Rocky Mountain Revue, a summer league in Salt Lake City. The NBA's first overall pick, 7-5 Yao Ming of the Shanghai Sharks, is not expected to join the Rockets until mid-October.
