Seriously, are you kidding me?? I know this is what I should come to expect by now, but you never cease to amaze me. After just 3 meaningless preseason games, you have managed to deduce that not only is Chase Budinger the best player on the entire team (in the other thread), but that Jermaine Taylor will never sniff "any meaningful minutes on the NBA floor."

Could you at least have waited until the end of preseason this time?

I took his comment about Budinger in the other thread to mean he has played the best of the Rockets in the first three games which is a very defensible position.

It will probably be a while before Taylor sees the court in meaningful minutes. He does have a chance to see minutes later in the year, but as a rookie, you aren't seeing the floor early in the season if you don't show it in the preseason...unless your team has no alternatives.

I see DaDakota as being overly judgemental, but I think he's right on Budinger being way ahead of Taylor at this point....but I doubt the gap between them is as big as he perceives it to be.

Chase is clearly the better player - has performed better, higher peak draft expectations, much better pedigree (McDonalds, Arizona).

But its just way, way too early to be writing off anyone at this point, especially a rookie. That's just not reasonable.

Yep only TMac can provide this.

And JT will be on the 15 man roster this season. I think he cemented that last night. He showed that he belongs in the NBA. Yes the dunk on the fastbreak was amazing but I was more impressed by his shooting.

Morey is the man. I'm kinda getting excited about Llull now.

You and I have different definitions of playing off the ball. Rafer brought up the ball for Tmac too. That's what all PG's do, they bring up the ball.

Wafer is very much an iso player, the complete opposite of Budinger. He doesn't need someone to set him up. And he almost never used screens or picks. In the highlight video below, you can see he never even waits long enough for someone to set a pick. He just goes 1 on 1. And that works for him because his passing isn't good enough to beat a trap.

I believe Taylor can play the same way. Minimal dribbles, no need to pass.

Well people are going to stereotype Jermaine Taylor automatically with himbeing such a great dunker so he will have to learn how to transition his game with the Rockets system asap. If not mostly likely he will go to another team and be like a JR smith or Josh Howard... show people in the long run that he can do more than dunk.

I am gonna have to disagree with you. There is no way he'll be better than Rubio, unless Rubio gets injured.

I saw the way the you said it "all year" as in for the "next year starting from now"...but ok if your referring only to the year of 2009 then yes I agree JT will not see any meaningful minutes with the Rockets this year at all. I think there is a very good chance that he does see the floor like Carl did in his rookie season, at least before T-mac comes back. We have no legit serviceble SG as at this moment.

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/JsHeH0VW7nI&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/JsHeH0VW7nI&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Look at where he took off for that dunk and he's pretty buff.

Chase will contribute in certain games. Not against top teams. JT will probably be in street clothes sitting on the bench unless someone gets hurt.

We don't have any rookies that will give us something substantial. I'm alson concerned with Ariza shooting

I said this before, but if you look at the players taken immediately prior to Taylor in the draft, you can reasonably assume that Daryl Morey had Jermaine Taylor rated as a mid- to late first round prospect:

    26. Taj Gibson - yet another hard-working PF/undersized C
    27. DeMarre Carroll - yet another hard-working undersized PF
    28. Wayne Ellington - undersized SG, but could have seen Rockets taking him
    29. Toney Douglas - way undersized SG, poor man's Aaron Brooks
    30. Christian Eyenga - long-term project at SG/SF
    31. Jeff Pendergraph - passive PF/C

Other than Ellington, I think Morey would have clearly taken Taylor over any of these players. Possibly over Ellington, as well. Taylor possesses an instinctive scorer's mentality that the Rockets desperately need. Sure, he's a little more "raw" than Budinger, having played for four seasons in an inferior conference. But he possesses a great deal of athleticism; and Morey likely views him as someone who could be "coached up" into a quality NBA player. Once he absorbs the coaching, when combined with this athleticism and scoring ability, he could be a very good player within the next two seasons.

I will trust Morey's talent evaluation skills here. He has been money in the past with players selected in this range (Brooks, Landry). Let's let this play out. I'm fairly confident that Taylor will be no less than a serviceable NBA player. At best, a quality double-figure scoring SG. Maybe it's just me, but he reminds me a little of a more athletic Cuttino Mobley.

Regarding most teams in the West I would agree, but the talent/size/scoring deficit is so large on this year's Rocket's team that I think a Rookie or "new" player could have an impact. C-Bud is the most likely candidate.

I swear I was thinking the same player just right handed. It'd be nice to have another Cuttino - Francis type backcourt with less dunking cause of Brooks and better 3 point shooting.

    AND more wins.... :D
