Well, the wife and I are celebrating our 15th anniversary, 20 together 15 married...and we are going to Perry's steakhouse here in Austin. Never been there, wondering if anyone has any experience at Perry's and what can we expect? Thanks, DD
there are a few of them down here in houston. pretty good steaks, good happy hour specials. not a bad place for an anniversary dinner.
Great place! Love the asparagus with crabmeat. The steaks are pretty good too...good atmosphere...great place overall.
I took my wife to Perry's in Houston (Champions area) for our anniversary last year and we really enjoyed it, but then I don't go to high-end places very often so I don't know how it would compare to other places. It's expensive, but I thought it was good.
I imagine you wouldn't get any restuarant's best quality if you go there during a busy day like Valentine's day.
How was the atmosphere, was it push em in push em out, or relaxed meal, where you can do the capachino at the end...and relax. Also, how is it laid out....are you sitting on top of other patrons or do you have some room for private conversation? Thanks, DD
Went a couple years back and really wasn't that impressed, a little overpriced IMO. They advertise their 4 finger porkchop but they overcooked the hell out of it when we got it, we sent it back and the 2nd one we got was still pretty tough.
It wasn't rushed, that's for sure. It's a very nice atmosphere at the one here... very nice place. Dark with nice lighting. I think there was a table not too far from us but it didn't feel like we were crowded or anything. I remember really liking the steak and the dessert we got was some kind of ice cream ball topped with a sauce they flambé in front of you. It was damn good. When we lived in Austin we went to Sullivan's once and I really enjoyed that place too. I would definitely recommend that place also (assuming it hasn't changed in 9 years or so). Heard good things about Truluck's but I never went.
we went to the one in austin a month or so ago, we had a group and were in the vault room but i'm sure the rest of the restaurant is just as good. Its good, just an expensive steakhouse basically. I liked it better than sullivans or ruths chris, if that tells you anything
I concur. My family and I had a great experience at the Perry's in Champions. Real relaxed, good atmosphere, and good food. I prefer Trulucks over Sullivan's. My meals at trulucks have been much more enjoyable - not as crowded, not as noisy, not as rushed. Sullivans food was good, but the overall experience left lots to be desired.
I'm just wondering how going to a steakhouse keeps Austin weird? Go get a steak at a Japanese place. At least that would hold on to the slogan's meaning.
You're right... Not nearly weird enough to keep Austin weird. OH!!! I'm not joking. If you like prime rib, go to the County Line. One of the best pieces of meats I've ever had. (I ordered medium rare, natch. Make sure it is available beforehand.) As much as I hate hippies, County line is a brilliant choice. (And believe me, I was shocked, as well.) If you want a "true" steakhouse, look above. But I've been to Sullivans, Vic & Anthony's, Flemings, etc. I know what good steak is. Regardless of whether you go to County line for this now or later, you have to try it. If only to see if the one in Austin is as good as the one in Houston.
DD, if you decide to not get steak, I recommend the tasting menu at UCHI. it's the shizzle my nizzle!
Make sure you reserve the vault room if you are going with a group, but if it's just you and the wife any spot in the restaurant is pretty nice. Food is great that's for sure.
