Your right, although I wouldn't say he looks identical to last season.

Hmm I looked up those pics again, and I don't see how they could have been photoshopped.

Obviously, he's obviously not as big as he looks in these photos... but he has without a doubt put on some muscle. I'm gonna give him one more year before I call him a bust.

Fair enough but there was no "ridiculous muscle gain" unless you consider enhanced images to be real.

Personally, I see no significant difference between the Yi of last season and the several pics that I pulled up on Google of him from a few weeks ago. We'll see how he looks when the regular season rolls around. My guess is he'll look nearly identical to last season.

    I said photoshopped or enhanced.

Compare that pic with this one from Aug. 14th, 2009:

I see sports images all the time that are clearly digitally enhanced to make muscles look more cut than they actually are.

Word. I'll take your word for it, considering that I'm absolutely clueless when it comes to photography.

My cousin happens to be a photographer but I'm essentially clueless myself. I'm just using my own eyes. When I openend that thread with the ripped picture of Yi, it immediately struck me as a doctored photo.

Here are just a few extreme examples of what you can do do a person's physique with digital enhancement:

This kind of image doctoring happens all over the place, not just in sports. Tabloids do it to famous actors/actresses, you see it in ads promoting weight loss or supplements, etc...

As far as Yi, I gave my thoughts about him in this thread a couple months ago and my stance is the same until I see the guy not look like a total marshmallow on the court: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=171438&highlight=ethic

Sun Yue just scream full-blown scrub from what I've seen. He's already about 24-years-old. I wouldn't be surprised if he never plays more than 200 minutes in this league.

Yi looks like Schwarzenegger in his prime in this pic. Definitely enhanced or photoshopped, looks like they cut his head and pasted it on a pic of someone elses body.

The bottom line is we can end all this speculation when we see Yi in a few weeks.

More important than if he turned into He-Man or not is if he developed a tougher attitude. He has skill, no doubt, but so do most players that never get over that hump and become quality NBA players.

Didn't last long, 1 game into the pre-season, Knicks waive Sun Yue. Don't see another NBA team picking him up, most likely the end of his brief NBA career.

Update: The Nets believe that Yi is developing into the player that everyone thought he could be when he was drafted with the sixth overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, the New York Daily News reports.
Analysis: Yi spent the summer playing for Chinese National Team and working on his interior moves, physical conditioning, and confidence. Coach Lawrence Frank has been impressed with what he's seen from Yi in the Nets' first four practices. "Yeah, I think he's had two very good practices back to back, which is very encouraging," Frank said. "His last two practices, you have to be impressed with his performance. He's getting there. It's going to be a process. But I think we're seeing improvement, which is what you want." Yi will start at power forward for the Nets this year and should get plenty of touches on offense with Vince Carter no longer no the team.

Have you ever heard of d*mning with faint praise? Read what Lawrence Frank actually said. Reminds me of when Doug Collins said Vinny Del Negro would be a much better coach this season right after the Bulls lost to the Celtics. We all knew what he meant.

Interior moves and confidence are what Yi needs. He's got the size and athleticism to be a good post player, this will be a decisive year for him now that he's starting.
