For discussion: I’m just curious if there are any parallels with Adelman’s 2002 – 2003 Kings team and this year’s team. What about differences you guys not? Personally I don’t know anything really about the Kings, and I’m certain many Rox fans don’t either, so anyone with the knowledge please enlighten the board.
It's way too early to compare the systems. We barely played 1st preseason game and lineup is not even determined.

I will say that I was, as Adelman was, satisfied by our tempo and fast-break points in the first half. I believe at one point we were out-breaking the Spurs 17-4. That changed into more of a half-court game in the second half, and our offense noticeably suffered. Thankfully Scola and Landry were able to alternate scoring surprising buckets consistently.
yet we know our players skillset, we know that the system is the same, so it is not unreasonable to make early judgements and predictions based on a simple comparison, chemistry is something that won't be there yet, but we still can take an early look ive thought about this before, we were closer to them when we had yao, he can compare to cwebb's passing, with chuck as our center we still have some good post passing, but we don't have the scoring that on the block that webber was capable of, we have a good backcourt that can compare to bibby and jackson, im going completely based on memory so forgive me if i am wrong about any of the players that may or may not have played on that team, if chase continues to improve he could replace peja's role, they also had turkolu and my boy scott pollard lol, i don't think it is absolutely necessary to replace them, but the hustle is replaced by most of our players tenfold i said above that i thought it was a better comparison with yao, but on second thought, yao does not allow for alot of movement, and he relies on more half court, slowed down offense, rather than the movement that is present with adelmans true system
I don't have any more time ATM to discuss further, but this will help any further discussion I hope. Personally, I think this team has one hell of a back court and some great people to spread points around with. This could be an even better group of guys to work with for the system. If the Rockets and keep momentum in the second half, that would be amazing.
the main difference is the kings had 5 players on the floor that could make plays.we have one in brooks.
That Kings team was very talented, far superior to what the Rox have right now. The Kings that year finished first in their division and had 59 wins. I do think the Rox will surprise some people but 59 wins seems like a stretch. That Sac team ran Adelman's offense very nice. Lots of movement, back cuts and easy buckets. While I think we will score more from running I don't think we have the full grasp of Adelman's offense. We will have to wait and see what David Anderson will turn into because in comparison to the 02 Kings they had Vlade at the high post who was a great passer. I do have hope for this season, but in comparison I just believe that the 02 Kings had more talent on the roster than we currently do... Vlade CWebb Christie Bibby BJax Peja Jim Jackson Hedo
Bibby-Brooks (Quick good 3pt shot) Christie-Ariza (Good defender with 3pt shot and slashes) Peja-Battier (Good defenders with 3pt shots) Webber-Scola (Leader of the team) Miller/Divac-Andersen (Good high post passers with 3pt shot (atleast miller)) Bench Hedo/JJ-Budinger (shooter)
well certainly they had more talent, but none of them were superstar scorers, they proved to be great players, some were already world recognized by that time, others earned it later (turkoglu) but the speed, athleticism, and ability to score is similar enough to believe that they could play a very similar style as those kings, and i dont believe brooks is the only one who can make plays, we have a lot of guys that can make plays, maybe not off the dribble, but we have lowry, ariza, and hopefully tmac to help brooks with that as well, not to much mention the possibility of chase coming out strong
They had a much larger and cohesive offense with more playes designed. That team could score at will with no problems. I think the current Adelman squad Houston is a superior defensive squad.
Peja was underrated as a defender but he was not a GOOD defender. Not at all. There is no comparison between Peja and Battier. Miller did not come to the Kings until 03-04 season. The 02-03 Kings had played together for three seasons excluding Bibby, who came the season before. They had ample time to master the system. That team also averaged 101.7 points per game that season. I'm not sure the Rockets are capable of that with the current roster.
