Thanks, DD, I couldn't find it under salaries anywhere mentionable or, uh, unmentionable. This kid is a real steal, and will prove to be one of Morey's few triumphs (IMO).

Looks good coming off those screens. I like the Eddie Johnson comparison.

When he plays with Ariza or McGrady, the other team's defensive stopper will be checking them usually. That means he'll be running the other team's star wing into and around all those screens.

Being a Longhorns fan, he looks a lot like a much better AJ Abrams coming off those screens like that.

I guess I'm the only one that thinks he looks like Peja. Tall 3, that comes off screen with a sweet stroke. Not extremely quick, but quick enough to get to the rim because people have to respect his outside shot.

    My question is:

How much of Budinger's success was due to the fact that every time he pops up to the top, the big man is picking off his defender? In other words, is Budinger really good at running the defender the appropriate angle to allow the big man to pick him off or have the big men improved signficantly with that downscreen and are doing a great job of getting a piece of his defender to free him for the shot?

If...........the big men have gotten really good at that screen, won't that same play work with McGrady as well, and not only can he fire the 18 footer, but McGrady will have the skills to dive to the basket if overplayed or find the open man if collapsed on with the double.

Is Budinger's success a product of Adelman's offense being run properly by the big men to get him free or is it a product of his ability to catch and shoot?

That's definitely a fair question to ask at this point, and the answer is, nobody really knows... or, at least, I don't know. The most I've seen of him at this point is in this one video so I can't really give a fair review of what the guy's capabilities are.

I really do hope he has more in his skill-set than just the ability to run off screens and hit the open jumper, though.

I think budinger is just good at moving without the ball. he can run to the open spot without a screen. and he is smart enough to use the pump fake to his advantage.

adelmans system is definitely good for his style, but it looks like he moves well off the ball regardless.

-If Tmac can move as well without the ball, i dont see why it would not work for him. but i highly doubt T-mac will shoot anywhere near the efficiency of Budinger.

Love the highlight reel. Keep feeding him the ball, Rick! We need to up his value so we can trade him in a package for somebody who does the other 10 things that win basketball games.

he played great....very good prospect but im more impressed by the ball movement and player movement, is this even the Rockets we used to know? If this is what we see in the first pre-season game then im excited at whats to come in the new season.

Well I think the rockets have been in need of a player like this for the past 4 years. They thought they had found him with novak, but novak is nowhere near as athletic and as strong as Budinger. Budinger a perfect fit for this team. GREAT acquisition.

Peja light?! Not as quick of a release but we'll see what he can do in Adelman's system. Let's see if his shooting touch stays consistent over the course of a few games.

I think of all the player comparison's the Peja one is dead on. He looks like a mini Dirk and plays like Peja, such a smooth shot off the screens.

He had it right, but then Keith Jones told him that he saying it wrong and he got confused. I think Keith was messing with him.

Okay, color me surprised. I really thought he was a fine pick when we got him, but I had bought into the accepted negatives of his analysis completely: no lateral ability, no ability to get his shot off in a professional game, more athlete than baller, etc. All of these seem to be a bit off at this point.

I wonder if playing for a kind of chaotic, underachieving Arizona team hurt his value more than anything. Hard to evaluate an individual when his team is really really good and also when it's really dysfunctional.
