Forgive me if there is an existing thread that talks about this guy as I do not post in this forum very often at all. I consider myself more conservative than liberal but not a die-hard republican. I would vote for someone who considers themselves to be a "conservative democrat". My parents are die-hard dems who have voted for the democratic candidate in every presidential election. They, my dad especially, give me a hard time for some of my political stances, yet they really don't believe me when I tell them that I am not a die-hard conservative.

Okay, enough about me and my political background. I work for a company that is big in defense contracts so when politics come up (which they aren't really supposed to), inevitably it is the conservative/republican viewpoint that is pushed. Which to me that doesn't bother me; however I have to draw the line with the TV in our breakroom. Someone every morning turns the TV onto Fox News and leaves it there - occasionally, someone brave enough will change the channel but then it gets changed back to Fox News or CNN. This is where the rant begins.

[rant]Every afternoon, I go to the breakroom to fix popcorn for my afternoon snack and Glenn Beck is on. This guy is stupid and an absolute clown. It is like he is Trader_Jorge in real life and he is playing that "persona" on national television. I remember one day that he was showing some clip of Obama talking and the whole time, he is in the background making these stupid and idiotic faces. His mugging for the camera really made me want to turn the TV off. Even if I find myself agreeing with what he is saying, how can I take him seriously if he is acting like a damn fool? I know that people will say that he is being an "entertainer" but is that what the Republican party is relegated to doing now - having clowns represent them like that on TV - seriously??

So outside of TJ, bigtexx, and basso - is there anyone here who likes this guy? Anyone that would buy his books or find themselves always having to watch his show? MadMax, Refman, and anyone else on this board that leans more conservative than liberal - what do you think about this guy? And for those posters who don't lean that way (and I know that we have a lot of posters), this is your opportunity to crack on the guy and just overall trash him. Remember - if he was given the chance, he would probably take what you are saying and twist it to make you look dumb all the while making stupid faces for the camera.[/rant]

The thing is he is "just an entertainer." He's no different than Howard Stern, except people strangely think Beck knows something. Sometimes I'm half convinced that Beck is a spoof he's so over the top.

I think it's just an effect of the industry he is in. He is trying to be more outrageous, more over the top, and more sensational than the other guy. They want ratings, and the best way to get them is to be completely outrageous. It's an act. I'm not saying that it is defensible either. I thin it is selfish to stoke extremism for personal ratings.

I've never watched his show. I don't need someone to formulate my opinions, and I doubt I would be entertained.

The people who hate him are dumber than the people who love him.

Nobody is hating him, just calling him an idiot, which he is.

OT: Haven't heard from T_J in a while. Is he still around here or did I miss something?

I've never actually seen him either. I get the impression, however, that I wouldn't like him. Someone here must like him, or at least get some masochistic pleasure from watching him. Otherwise, how would he stay on the air?

As for your work situation: if you are ambitious, say nothing about it, since you may not know your superiors' positions on it. If it's just a job, complain to HR. You might lose the TV entirely, but that might not be so bad.

He's not an idiot. He's a clown. He sees Rush making $35m a year for the same shtick, and wants in.

I wish more people would write to the sponsors of his show when he does the really objectionable stuff. Same with Rush. The big advertisers (and the people who support them) are bankrolling this.

Well it was more a hunch than anything else that was solidified with a thread of yours that got closed where you pretty much called Batman Jones a terrorist. That is pretty extreme and Glenn Beck seems to be a pretty extreme guy.

But if you don't like him, then I am wondering if there is ANYONE on this board that likes the guy.

i don't like or dislike him- i don't know him, that is, i've never seen him.

but folks like bnb who seem so offended (although i expect it's more on GP, since i doubt he actually watches, i assume are likewise offended by the louts on the left, such as Olbermann, Madow, Maher, Matthews, et al?

Looks like the mensa member "Shovel Face" likes him. (Mensa b/c, as he eloquently states it, those who like Glenn Beck are smarter than those who do not favor Glenn Beck. It's an interesting idea that, like everything falling out of Glenn Beck's mouth, runs afoul of all data and clear-headed analysis.)

Glenn Beck is such a clown and an idiot that he's bringing down the likes of ACORN, Van Jones while exposing The State run media and Obama to the rest of the nation who did not drink the Obama kool-aid. For those who never listened to Beck, here's a crash course on the man: he's a libertarian who happens to love our country, I listened to him way back in the days and if you think he is hard on Obama, go back to the archives when Bush was in charge and it will shock you, he used to tear W a new one every other day.

For those of you don't know who he is, educate yourself a bit before you passed judgment.

Well, there you go, if esteban is giving Beck his seal of approval, you can count me in as a new fan.
