AB on fast track to success McALLEN — Aaron Brooks took off toward the rim on one of his improbable alley-oop leaps, an “open practice” version of the Game 4 basket against the Lakers when all sorts of things seemed possible for him and the Rockets. The crowd at the McAllen Convention Center roared, as fans typically do when Brooks, 6-0, defies his height and gravity, but their appreciation was not about what he was doing as much as who was doing it. As an NBA rookie in 2007, Brooks was one of five point guards in Rockets training camp, and he was sent to the NBA Development League team so he could find playing time somewhere. Back in the Rio Grande Valley this week, he was a star, the Rockets' starting point guard and an indisputable key to their hopes for the season. “It seems like just yesterday I was here,” Brooks said. “It sounds weird. I have a different role coming back down there. Everything changed so fast. “I guess they saw it when I was playing for them. Now I'm playing for the Rockets. They probably feel the same way I do.” --------------------------------------------------------------- Hit link to view rest of it. DD
If Brooks can continue to build on the success of last year's playoffs he's going to be bigger than Sam Cassell. I was not big on Brooks when we picked him as speed isn't the only ingredient necessary to be a successful point guard. If Brooks develops a good passing game to complement his other abilities, wow, watch out!
How does he lead the fast break will be interesting and does he make the right decisions a majority of the time. Finding Trevor and David's sweet spots will be crucial. Plus his jumper must be money.
I'm can put up with his poor court vision and bad passing ability as long as he scores in the paint more efficiently for us.
Totally agree. Brooks showed in the playoffs that he can be a star. He ripped portland in Game 1 and all home games against the Lake Show he broke them down defensivley almost every time he had the ball. I have seen this coming.. Brooks is developing to be an all-star. Morey said recently after the team picked up his option.. that "He is a big Part of our future going foward". Although he gives up size.. he is very skilled, and makes up for it giving all other 28 teams matchup problems. Very happy he's a rocket !
why does the chron go along with the fiction that Brooks is "6-0", he wouldn't be 6-0 if he got a Kid 'n' Play style high top fade.
Brooks' pre-draft measurement w/o shoes was 5'10.5". With shoes, he's 5'11.75". NBA height is typically based on a player's height with shoes and rounded up to the nearest inch. That's why you see Brooks listed at 6'0" on NBA.com and other sites. Most players in the league are listed as an inch-plus taller than their actual height. Below are a few other small guards for comparison as well as average heights and measurements by position. The first two columns in the pics below are height w/out and w/ shoes. The last two columns are wingspan and standing reach. Brooks actually has long arms for his height. He's 1.25 inches shorter than Chris Paul but has about the same wingpsan and a greater reach. Believe it or not, Brooks' wingspan and reach are closer to that of the average PG than Landry's are to the average PF. At least according to their sampling. http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-measurements/
Brooks isn't just a star in Rio Grand Valley... He is a star in Houston... China... and notorious in LA.
