As sad as it sounds, Yao Ming doesn't have to suit up one game this year and he still the best (most popular) center in the West. If he is on the ballot, don't be surprised if he makes into the top 5 category for Western centers. Who is there to vote for outside of Al Jefferson and possibly Andris Biedrins.
They've had unusual starting 5s in he past with Garnett at SF or Kobe at PG. With Yao out, they'll probably put a guy like Gasol or Duncan at C. I don't think they have to be exact with positions. Plus, guys like Gasol and Duncan do play C quite a bit.
Ahhhhh, how sweet that you thought of me, but we agree, no one has a chance this year, unless something strange happens. DD
T-mac was a all star, and still he's the most likely. Second goes Brooks, but considering there are D. Will, CP3, Nash, Kidd and so on in the west conference, his chance is ABSOLUTELY slim.
that's because vote for guards and forwards, not specifics. Tmac would usually play the point when he made the team in the west and KG would play SF with Duncan at PF. They do have to be exact positions, particularly center.
I felt that same way when i saw the thread title. Then i personally feel that tmac may not come back until december or jan (offcourse I hope he can be back earlier). So i voted brookes. I feel that he may have a chance as a back guard for the west.
It looks like Tracy is going to miss too many games in the 1st half to get all-star votes. Plus, he has to worry about Kobe, Durant (is he listed as a SG or SF), Roy, Martin, and Ginobili. If he returns to elite status, he'd probably win Comeback Player of the Year unless he's topped by Arenas.
T-mac is the only (somewhat) active player currently on this roster that has a shot *in before the McGrady Hate*
Ill go out on a limb here and say the Rockets are sitting around 6th place when the coaches make their vote. Luis Scola gets the nod since coaches usually like to give guys like Scola credit. Maybe Amare has a bad attitude all year, I could see Boozer/Milsap having some troubles, and Scola just flat-out deserving the slot over West, Nene, or Aldridge. He has a real shot IMO. The backup reserve spots aren't always about stats. I just can't see the coaches voting in McGrady, its up to China.
Yeah I'm sure Scola is an All Star... He is an All Star at dribbling the ball in traffic with nowhere to go then he proceeds to turn the ball over....
If his role increases and he has shown improvements to his game. Carl Landry could have a legit shot perhaps.
