The cast members were pretty outspoken with their liberal presidential endorsements last year. Tina Fey spoke out against people abandoning Clinton for Obama during news update and Tracy Morgan had his rebuttal.

The parody of Palin was also super popular.

I think the best liberal satire is currently found on the Simpsons. South Park has always had its edge.

I also don't think stuff like this Carlin vid would fly on SNL, but it would be great. They have to get that the Liberals are the new mainstream America.

I'd say they are liberal, but that doesn't mean they don't make fun of their own. They are still in the business of entertainment, and they can't make fun of Bush/Palin forever.

I guess I imagined them making fun of Obama previously.

of course they have. Armisen has done a better job in the past playing President Obama.

last night's skit was just NOT FUNNY, that's the problem I had with it.

I find a lot of these threads posted by anti-Obama folks hilariously off-target. You have basso off in the right corner, posting about some advisor that MIGHT have not reported a statutory rape that MIGHT have happened, now you have this guy claiming Obama is failing because SNL is making fun of him. Is that really the best political debate you can conjure? Seriously? I suppose you are probably just looking for some sort of validation of your political stance and you're taking it any way you can get it -- even from a comedy show.

I also find it hilarious how anyone who supports the President of the United States is suddenly labeled a "liberal," even if they had no affiliation with the liberal (AKA Democratic) viewpoint prior. How about instead of slinging words around and pointing fingers at people yelling "LIBERAL!", you actually spend time with a rationalized argument about why your stance is superior. I have yet to see one on this entire forum.

His impression has gone downhill. It seems like he almost broke character. Why did he let his voice so high now?

exactly! they are going for laughs and unfortunately for the republicans, mccain/palin was a literal fort knox of comedic gold.

armisen has the obama look down, but he doesnt get the voice at all - the monotonic baritone - seems like he was better at it early on. his gov. patterson is hilarious though - not for mocking a blind person, but b/c of all the new jersey jokes!

they did a ton of unflattering stuff on clinton too - one of the funniest i can remember is phil hartman as clinton - the spoof of 'cops' where they come out and bill had a black eye, wifebeater t-shirt and tattoo! hillary was found hiding in the pantry smoking a cig and when questioned bill said he slipped and fell and that how he got the black eye. or the 3 way phone call b/t clinton-saddam and monica - 'thanks for the berret!'

really, how biased is the 'biased liberal media'? - the bush administration got a pass on so much of the criminal/unconstitutional activities they were engaged in. and it seems like republicans today are getting way more tv time to air their grievances than democrats got during the bush years.

and how much time did the 'biased liberal media' spend on lewinsky. if they were so biased and liberal they would have buried the story - contrast that with the lack of attention the jeff gannon issue got. the 'biased liberal media' could have destroyed bush with regards to his relationship w/ gannon, but they never picked up the story.

i would say that snl is making fun of obama b/c he is failing. this was satirical, yet spot on critique imo and if they were so biased and liberal this would not have made it to air. it was kind of harsh - but its not like the first time snl has mocked a "liberal".

so you would say their liberal because of Al Franken. its a comedy show, he was a comedian, and I don't remember any of his skits being political.

this is like people saying how liberal letterman is when he made fun of Clinton just as much as Bush

their personal politics don't affect their shows, if something is funny they will pounce

most if not all of the writers are hardcore liberals

tina fey and al franken are just the popular ones. They live in NYC, it should be pretty obvious.

I don't know why anyone should care, it is not like this is some turning point.

First of all, that pic is fake. Franken's head has been photoshopped on.

Second, it's getting boring hearing conservatives complain about unfair political humor from SNL. It's like the previous 8 years before Bush never happened or something.

    link?

anyway, what does their political affiliation have to do with anything? as has been pointed out already, snl will go after democrats with equal aplomb. clinton has been out of office for almost 10 years and they still dog on him frequently (and its still hilarious!)

i thought al franken lived in minnesota?

I think we should stop making fun of the OP and objectively consider the point that this SNL video makes. I voted for Obama based on his "promises", but unfortunately he hasn't done jack crap yet. He should at least address the 2 wars that he ran on "ending". He's been acting like a little scared girl, Republicans are bullying him and he's acting all "bipartisan" and "reaching out" to them. Just quit this gimmick and frickin get something done, ya know, so I can vote for you again in 2012

Jim Downey has been writing for SNL since 1977 and usually he writes political sketches, the Presidential debate sketches for example. He's a Republican.

BTW, Dennis Miller and Colin Quinn were also anchors for Weekend Update. Quinn definitely strikes me as a conservative. Miller seemed like a liberal at the time, although Franken defended Miller's perceived switch in parties saying Miller always had a conservative streak in him.

In any case, SNL has always skewered anyone possible, irregardless of party.

apparently you don't know what obama ran on because he didn't run on "ending" two wars.

Fail. If you are going to impersonate somebody, it wouldn't hurt to at least sound like him.
