In before every president, regardless of party or political persuasion, being parodied on SNL.

Were you hoping for a debate about Obama's accomplishments based off posting a SNL video? I can only assume that's what you intended after making a new thread about in the D&D instead of just posting it in the SNL thread in the hangout.

Wow. You failed trying to fix your first fail.

You can "take" the brunt of a joke. You can't "be" the brunt of a joke.

You can be the "butt" of a joke, though.

Then you would still be wrong. You can be the butt of a joke. You can bear the brunt of a joke. But you can't be the "brunt" of a joke.

That bit crashed and burned. They couldn't find a better Obama impressionist? That guy isn't even trying.

If we're going to be stuck with that guy for the next 4 to 8 years, SNL needs to bring in someone better, even if he only plays Obama.

    Please.

Yes, indeed you can "become the brunt of jokes". Forget the statement. You people need to relax. You are so quick to be critical of anyone that states something against the guy rather than seeing things as they are.

I made a mistake in voting for him, as have many others, and I deeply regret it. He ran as a moderate, the media (SNL included) pushed this on his behalf. But in reality -- he is far from it.

Try to step off the kool-aid for a bit.

I'm still tryin to figure out what makes SNL a "liberal" comedy show.

Now, granted I haven't watched it in probably 15 years, but to my recollection they have parodied EVERY president since Nixon.

What makes them "liberal"? Having the gall to make fun of Republicans means that they are inherently biased to the left? Then what are they when they make fun of Carter and Clinton?

No you cannot - you can't do it anymore than you could say that "A ditch in time saves nine" or "A burp in hand is worth two in the bush".

    Here's a definition of "brunt"

    1. The main impact or force, as of an attack.
    2. The main burden: bore the brunt of the household chores.

When an object or objects "bear the brunt" of a joke, the joke is the impact, and the objects, (as they are being made fun of) bear the brunt of it.

People, out of haste or confusion, frequently consciously or subconsciously confuse this (as you did) with the phrase "become the butt" of a joke.

Just accept your vocab fail and stop digging, M. Malaprop.

You post an SNL clip looking for reasoned discussion, and you think WE aren't "seeing things as they are"? Oh, and for the record, according to Webster:

    brunt
    Pronunciation: \ˈbrənt\
    Function: noun
    Etymology: Middle English
    Date: 15th century
1 : the principal force, shock, or stress (as of an attack)
    2 : the greater part : burden

A "brunt", therefore, is a measurement of quantity, not an identity, as you are implying. Or DonnyMost and SamFisher have pointed out, you can BEAR the brunt, but not BE the brunt. Or in other words: you fail.

He never ran as a moderate. He may have said that he wanted to work with the GOP instead of against them, but that doesn't mean his policies or statements were anything less than 100% left-leaning Democrat (thank God). Maybe you just weren't paying attention.

    Mmmmm... Kool aid...

Or, perhaps, SNL is not as partisan as you might think. Comedy has no political party!

Christopher Moltisanti: Maybe Vesuvio's is bugged and it's Feds who told Johnny.

Silvio Dante: What, conspiracy theories now?

Christopher Moltisanti: Why not? Play captains against each other, create a little dysentery among the ranks?

Tony Soprano: First of all, the place is swiped for bugs twice a month. Second, there are much more interesting things being said at that place than Ginny Sack's fat ass!
