Link: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/6652263.html The court was dropped down in the middle of the McAllen Convention Center, a make-shift training camp venue far removed in so many ways from the arenas and tests of the NBA to come. It was, however, a start. Perhaps the setting was fitting, a reminder of how far Tracy McGrady still must go. But for the first time since microfracture surgery last spring, McGrady practiced with the Rockets on Sunday. He went through a few stints of the scrimmage, moving well and without pain in a small, but significant step in his comeback bid. His first participation in training camp did not alter his schedule. Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said it was "part of the process." The Rockets still expect McGrady to be out at least until an MRI scheduled for Nov. 23. Still, he played and all reports were that he played well. "He looked good, real good," forward Trevor Ariza said. "He was real poised, real confident. He may be a ways away, but I think he looked good."
so first the rockets said mcgrady will NOT practice until 11/23 (just rehab then get the MRI). now he has practiced with the team. he's gonna play sooner than whatever date the team has for him, if he does well in practice. the only way his timetable is pushed back is if he suffers another injury.
He is not going to play until at least Xmas. Mark my words. At that point we will be batting about .40 (at best)
Just so he doesn't get hurt. I would be all right to let him sit out until Feb if that is what it takes.
Trevor seems impressed. Good to hear but I want to know if he can run full speed and cut without having any doubts with his knee, and be physical with his teammates in the scrimmages.
idk, im glad that he is somewhat practicing, but from what he has done in chicago, it seems like the rockets are sort of holding him back. I dont mind being cautious, but not too cautious.
the 5-on-5s in chicago i don't think were "serious." most likely, they were just pick-up games. in practices, players do go harder b/c they are running NBA plays. and i like the approach they're taking. in the next practice, tracy will play more and see how he feels. as he feels better, they'll increase the load. when they see tracy can do EVERY practice at full speed, they'll let him take the MRI then (if it's earlier than 11/23). i feel they just put that 11/23 day so it would be exactly 9 months post-op. maybe doctors feel 7 months is too early to play a real NBA game.
I don't believe any of this anymore. Nobody really knows when he'll play his first regular season game. Just hope for the best.
i hope thats the approach they are taking. I also hope the mri really isnt what they are worried about as opposed to it being just to early at 7 months, because they never told us what the mri revealed. dont you think that is kinda strange?
b/c the mri revealed nothing. on media day, tracy spoke of his talks with the doctors. they told him it's only 7 months post-op, let's not rush things and take his time. but with tracy/yao, a weekly MRI should be done. it should have been standard years ago.
This is great news, hope his schedule for his return would be a little ahead. Mac,come forward and shut up the doubters.
Exactly. One week he looks great. One week he's out until November. The next week they say December. Hope he comes back and doesn't get injured. However long he needs to take off to do that, that's how long he needs to take. Problem is, they seriously need to figure out how long that will be.
i for one would be shocked if it went pass nov. i mean the MRI is of no use, since it isnt revealing anything thats wrong with the knee, and they are just holding him up till 9 months at least, it is all based on how mcgrady feels and how he plays on that knee
