Hey guys, Cato has been a name tossed around on our Knick board at RealGM as a possible starter or back-up for next season.

    Is he available?
Do we have anything to trade with you guys? (Anderson, Harrington??)
    When does his contract expire?

    Thanks for any input :)

You can have him for a 3 day old loaf of bread and a half eaten bologna sandwich.

We'll trade you Cato for some belly lint and a Scott Layden autographed picture.

That's how much Cato is worth.... seriously.

i don't see who we could get in return that will benefit us. Mabe we could trade him for a future pick or Shandon anderson to back up mobley.

I think Cato's pretty valueable to us because we have no other capeable backup center.

I think a Shandon for Cato trade would work. No first rounders involved though., second rounders only.

You would really want Anderson back?

I don't think SA would be welcomed back, he did not have good things to say about Steve and Cat.

Do you have any expiring contracts around 6 mil? We would do that.

Cato is actually a player that could thrive with a team that shared the basketball.

He gets about 8 points and 7 rebounds on the Rockets, but if he were in New Jersey, he would be about 15 and 12.

He is motivated when he is involved, and disappears when he is ignored on the offensive end.

I think he can be had, as Ming and Collier are both High Post players & fit the new offense better.

The Knicks have nothing on their team which we can trade Cato for. To get Cato on the Knicks, a three way trade would have to occur.

The only idea I could come up with is a three team deal involving the Sonics.

    Knicks Get
    Cato

    Rockets Get
    Rashard Lewis
    back up center

    Sonics Get
    ?

expiring contracts + a decent backup C or a decent lotto protected 1st rounder wouldn't be a bad deal.

I don't see him being moved unless they get a sweet deal or Ming progresses faster than expected.

    Isn't Ward's contract up soon?

    Actually this would work:[

    Houston Trades to New york:
PF Kenny Thomas (14.1 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 1.9 apg in 34.5 minutes)
    C Kelvin Cato (6.6 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 0.4 apg in 25.5 minutes)

    Houston receives form New York:
    C Travis Knight (2.0 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 0.2 apg in 8.8 minutes)
PF Kurt Thomas (13.9 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 1.1 apg in 33.8 minutes)

    TRADE ACCEPTED

Why I think it works for Houston... #1 We get to dump salary... Knights contract expires next season and Kurts expires the following... But we also get a legitimate back up for Ming who can start off the season 1st string and then move to backup and he is also another backup pf. Travis knight is strictly fodder used to practice with and released when his contract expires next year.

Why I think it works for New York... Kurt Thomas is not the answer at center so now he becomes no more than a backup for Dice. Cato is legitmate big man. he can feel their void... And they also get a solid pf in Kenny. When cato sits the bench Dice can slide over in his spot and Kenny at pf. and he relieve Dice as well.

I know it seems like we should get more for KT but he is a FA next year and we can not afford him. So we use him to dump Cato's salary and NY gets a serviceable big man and a solid backup for dice. Now if they throw in a 1st round draft choice ( It can even be lottery protected) I would do that deal tonight.

Ward has a 3mil buy-out at the end of the season.

What about Ward and Harrington 4 Cato?

We may lose a prized asset as you say, but we certainly won't lose any sleep over it.

The only guy the knicks have that the rox would want are probably Kurt Thomas and Othella Harrington. Of course, NYK would be stupid to trade Thomas for Cato even though Cato is bigger.
