The new season of The Next Iron Chef begins this Sunday on Food Network. Holly Smith, The Chef\Owner of Cafe Juanita, will be competing. She won the James Beard award for Northwest cuisine in 2008, and it's one of the best dining experiences in Seattle. My wife has worked there for the past 2 years first as a line cook then as the pastioli once she got pregnant. Holly said she would take her 2 sous chefs on Iron Chef if she won the competition, but one of them just moved to Italy. My wife is a pretty bad ass cook, so it's a possibility my wife could be 1 of the assistants to an Iron Chef this year. Duck Tongues! You ARE lucky today. I can't get into the American Iron Chef, unless it is Batali, but I'll be watching this show. I enjoyed the previous season.. seems like it has been a while. Now I have someone to cheer onward to victory!
Good luck on your wife making the show. You mentioned it before in another thread and sounded pretty excited for her. If she can cook a good Dory and Risotto, then I want a invite to dinner.
I'm psyched. I like all sorts of competition shows, and I love the spectacle of Iron Chef. Allez Cuisine!!!
I like Iron Chef America, and I'd probably like this show, but I don't like that the winner becomes an Iron Chef. I watched an episode where I guy who lost on The Next Iron Chef, and challenged the guy who won. Of course it becomes a rare win for the challenger. Who else would want to challenge the Next Iron Chef? There is more prestige to be had for facing one of the other chefs.
Congrats to Holly and hopefully your wife will get to compete! Iron Chef is one of my favorite shows. I keep thinking I'd love to compete, then I come to my senses. We've done a couple "Iron Chef" competitions in the Urban Chef kitchen, perhaps we should do a ClutchFans competition soon.
Yeah, they showed the Cat Cora vs Holly Smith Grape Battle last Sunday, and it should be repeated through tomorrow. That was a cool battle. They've been busy this week at the restaurant and have been specialing a couple of the dishes from the episode. The rabbit and risotto dishes are mainstays at the restaurant, although they will change up what accompanies them. The crab has been a hit for a while at the restaurant as well. Alton Brown said after that episode. "Yeah, your dessert needed a lot of work, but the crab. I could eat that **** all day long."
